  • Day 1 Half Day Guided Hike To Monteriggioni & Wine Tasting
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Half Day Guided Hike To Monteriggioni & Wine Tasting

Give your mind a peaceful rest from the noise of the crowded towns, follow your expert guide on a pleasant walk along the Via Francigena, an ancient pilgrim route for the first time plotted down by the Arcbishop โ€˜Sigeric the seriousโ€™ of Cantebury on his return from Rome in the 9th century and considered the main artery to Rome throughout the middle ages.

This route, that has for centuries been a highway of men and emotions, a spiritual pilgrimage and a wealthy trade route, has been forgotten and almost entirely relegated to history by the modern paved car roads. Only recently the route has been brought back from the grip of modernity and is today enjoyed by many pilgrims and hikers alike. Experience the beauty of the mixture between the Tuscan countryside and the glory of its medieval past, still present in its wonderfully preserved castles, villages and ruins.

See the Tuscany you would never want to miss before returning home, pass through forests and fields, vineyards and olive groves from Siena to the imposing fortress of Monteriggioni. A medieval walled town located on a natural hillock, built by the Sienese in the thirteenth century as a bastion of defense in their wars against Florence. It withstood many attacks from both the Florentines and the forces of the Bishop of Volterra until in an act of reconciliation with the Medicis, the townโ€™s captain simply handed the keys of the town over to the Medicean forces - considered a "great betrayal" by the townโ€™s people. Once in Monteriggioni, you will enjoy a guided tasting of local organic wines before saying goodbye to your guide for the end of the tour. Feel free to explore the village and the surrounding area at your own pace. You will be given a bus ticket to return to Siena railway station. Buses leave every hour and can be taken at whatever time you prefer from the nearby station.

The hike tour is suitable for anyone in good physical condition and with experience in long walks. It is highly recommended you wear comfortable clothes and shoes, to bring water, a hat, sun cream.

  • Day 2 Sant Antimo Hike & Brunello Wine Tour
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Sant Antimo Hike & Brunello Wine Tour

We start by taking the ancient Roman road Cassia towards the famous Brunello wine hill and arrive to Montalcino, the hill-town that gives its name to the region and its wines. Here you have the opportunity of climbing the walls of the fortress where the brave soldiers of the Republic of Siena made its last stand to Florence and the Medici. Spend time visiting the towns stores, tasting the Brunello wines in the many wine bars or simply wander around the city walls and enjoying the incredible views overlooking the valleys and vineyards below.

After our visit to the town of Montalcino, meet with your hiking guide for a 6 kilometer, 2 hour hike along a beautiful panoramic walking path that will bring us to the Sant Antimo Abbey. A stunning ancient mystical Benedictine abbey, a special place set in fabulous landscapes which permeate peace and tranquility, truly one of the main wonders of Tuscany.

After the hike meet up with the group and arrive to a family run winery where we are introduced to the owners and winemakers, here we visit the farm before sitting down to enjoy a traditional Tuscan meal accompanied by the delicious Brunello wines produced here.

In the afternoon we visit a second winery where we get a detailed description of the wine making processes, learn about the tools used, the way the vines are cared for and the aging in oak barrels that this wine must have by law for many years. After visiting the cellars and getting to know the winemakers we sit down for a last tasting of this nectar of the gods.

  • Day 3 E-Bike Chianti Tour & Winery Lunch
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

E-Bike Chianti Tour & Winery Lunch

Hop on to a comfortable van and head into the Chianti to the starting point for the bike ride. Before heading off, familiarize yourself with the E-Bikes and equipment. These bikes make biking in Tuscany, one of the worldโ€™s most famous cycling areas, accessible to all!

Easily set the difficulty of your ride and decide whether you would like the bike to do most of the work, or do the workout yourself. The silent electric motor, allows you to enjoy the smells, sounds and tranquility of the Tuscan countryside.

Finally begin your ride on quiet roads away from traffic for a 20km long cycle. During the 3 hour ride, cross neat rows of vineyards, pretty olive groves, dense and shaded forests, and sleepy villages. Be surprised here and there by modern art installations in among the vegetation and along the road that add a touch of quirky modernity to an otherwise very traditional Chianti landscape. Throughout the morning, stop frequently to take in the views, breath the clean Chianti air and stretch your legs.

Before arriving to our lunch place, stop to visit a beautifully restored ex-monastery, dating back to the XV century. Enjoy a leisurely walk in the cloisters, see the neat renaissance gardens and admire the stunningly beautifully chapel rich with frescoes, known as the โ€™little Sistineโ€™. Here you can also savour a small tasting of local wines (optional). After having visited the monastery, jump on your bikes one last time for a short ride to a Chianti winery where you will sit down for a delicious lunch accompanied by the farmsโ€™s Chianti Classico wines and olive oil. After lunch get back on the van and visit a second smaller producer for a tour of the cellars and tasting of more delicious wines before jumping back on the van and returning to the Siena train station after a 8 hour beautiful and up close experience of some of the best that Tuscany has to offer.
