      You can fly from your chosen airport to Costa Rica, where you land at San José Airport. After a tour guide, transfer to the hotel will be provided upon arrival.

      Day 2: In Bird Paradise

      Your Mundo Verde travel experience begins today after breakfast and you will drive to the Biological Reserve near Monteverde. Well-accessible hiking trails are approximately a 2-hour walk through the 10,500 hectare Nebelwald Paradise. The rich, evermoid green is home to many species of birds, including the Mayan bird of the gods, the protected quetzal. After this first excursion, you will move into your room and can use the rest of the day for your own activities.

      Day 3: On The Way To Nicaragua

      In the early morning, head to the Panamericana and drive through Cañas and Liberia to the border town of Peñas Blancas. After your Costa Rican tour guide has assisted you with border formalities, she says goodbye to you and hands you over to the care of Nicaraguan colleagues. The journey continues northwards along the largest lake in Central America, Lake Nicaragua, to the port town of San Jorge, from where you can take the ferry to the volcanic island of Ometepe. It is an hour’s drive from Moyogalpa, where you will be transported to Playa Santo Domingo, the place of your hotel stay.

      After visiting El Ceibo Archaeological Museum in the morning and relaxing in the legendary Charco Verde lagoon, the ferry will take you back to the mainland. Once again, drive over the famous Panamericana. This time your destination is Granada, the oldest colonial city on the American continent. Guests can explore the historic centre and the most important buildings of this impressive city. You’ll have dinner tonight in a nice old town restaurant.

      Day 5: The Burning Mountain

      In Masaya Volcano National Park, you can take a look at the Santiago crater today, where the lava seeks and boils deep down, and from which clouds of gas and sulfur constantly shoot up. Impressive is the abundant flora and fauna that has spread here since the last eruption of the stratum volcano, also called the “hellmaw” by the Spanish conquerors. Your drive continues to Catarina, where you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Laguna de Apoyo crater lake. Here you can also visit a plant breeder who can tell you interesting facts about native vegetation. After that, head back to Lake Nicaragua and take a leisurely boat trip through Las Isletas, which consists of almost 360 small tropical islands. You can observe the lush flora and bird life. Afterwards we head back to Granada and continue the tour of the day before.

      Day 6: Zoo In The Wild

      Once again we head along the shores of Lake Nicaragua to San Carlos. During the journey through the varied landscape, your guide will inform you once again about the special features of this area. From San Carlos, you will again pass the border between Nicaragua and Costa Rica. Now back with your Costa Rican tour guide, drive about an hour to Muelle and from there another 20 minutes to La Fortuna, at the foot of the active Arenal volcano. You can move into your hotel room here and then enjoy your free time. Guests can take advantage of the hotel’s hot spring baths.

      Today, you’ll always have a view of the volcano on a hike through the Arenal National Park. During an eruption in 1968, an impressive lava field was created, which you can reach after crossing a small forest area. From high trees, safely accessible suspension bridges, you will then have an exceptional view of the surrounding nature. Back at the hotel, guests are free to spend the evening.

      The program of this day starts very early, already at 5:30 a.m. Drive across Puerto Viejo and Horquetas to Guápiles, where guests can enjoy a typical breakfast at a restaurant. The bus from the lodge continues to the area of Caño Blanco. There you will visit a banana plantation and learn about the blessing and curse of the yellow fruit. Then it goes by boat over small rivers and canals northeast to Tortuguero. Guests can move into their room and enjoy lunch here in the jungle lodge. The afternoon is free for your own activities.

      TIPS: Take the free time to visit the Sea Turtle Conservation Museum in the nearby village. Your tour guide will be happy to accompany you there.

      If you are on site between July and September, be sure to take a night trip to the beach. Then you may be lucky to observe the rare sea turtles laying eggs.

      Day 9: By Boat Through The Rainforest

      They travel early again and wind their way in small boats through the narrow canals of Tortuguero National Park, always looking for crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, turtles and sleeping bats, as well as the myriad species of waterfowl. The diverse vegetation here is sometimes so dense that you can take a boat like through a tunnel. Guests can return to their lodge for breakfast. Before your next meal at noon, take a hike through the nature reserve. After another afternoon cruise, guests can round off the day and enjoy dinner in the lodge’s open restaurant.

      You can also take a boat back to Caño Blanco in the morning, where the coach will pick you up again. Along the Caribbean coast, you’ll sail across the port city of Puerto Limón, where you can catch the huge transatlantic and cruise ships, to Cahuita, a small village with a typical Caribbean flair. Guests staying in the lodge can enjoy free time and a drink at the reggae bar. Guests can also take a stroll along the Caribbean beaches.

  • Day 11 Day 11: Border Crossing

      After a good breakfast and luggage loading, the bus takes a short distance to Cahuita National Park. There you will take a hike to discover many different animal and plant species. Then head to the Sixaola border crossing, where you cross the border to Panama on an adventurous bridge that crosses the Sixaola River. Continue to the port city of Almirante. Luggage is loaded on a boat and you can drive to Colón Island for half an hour. Finally, you will reach the small town of Bocas del Toro, where you can move into your room at a cosy hotel. It has a relaxed Caribbean atmosphere, there are many secluded dream beaches and the underwater world is ideal for snorkelling and diving.

      Today is all about the local overwater and underwater world. First, you’ll move on to multi-vegetated mangrove forests to look out for waterbirds. The Coral Key will then take you to a very nice spot for snorkelling. In the afternoon we head to Red Frog Beach, which owes its name to the red strawberry frogs that appear there. Guests can swim and explore the island. The boat will then take you back to the main island via Hospital Point.

      Day 13: Panama’S Heart And Soul

      The hotel will take you to the island’s airstrip and it is approximately an hour’s flight to Panama City. Once there, first visit the ruins of the original colonial city, which was destroyed by a raid by the pirate Sir Henry Morgan in 1671. Afterwards, take a city tour of Panama City’s Old Town with the Cathedral and National Theatre, then head to Miraflores for a first glimpse of the Panama Canal.

      Day 14: Waterway From The Atlantic To The Pacific Ocean

      They set off in the morning for a very special experience. Today you will cross a part of the Panama Canal on board a ship, pass through various locks of this technical marvel and get information about the history of the channel. Watch the huge cargo ships during the sometimes difficult manoeuvres and enjoy lunch on the ship.

  • Day 15 Day 15-16: Departure

      During the day, you will be transferred to Panama City International Airport and your return flight home, where you will land the next day. An eventful study trip to Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama with many unforgettable impressions comes to an end.
