Itinerary of your trip Under The Spell Of The Elemental Forces

  • Day 1 Arrival
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrival

Individual arrival to Iceland. Group transfer to the guesthouse in Reykjavรญk. Those who wish can use the afternoon for a relaxing swim in the famous Blue Lagoon (optional). Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

  • Day 2 Golden Ring And Kerlingarfjรถll 1ร—(B/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Golden Ring And Kerlingarfjรถll 1ร—(B/M/A)

You will leave Reykjavik and drive to Thingvellir National Park. Thingvellir is of great importance in the history of the earth: like hardly any other region on earth, it illustrates the vertical and horizontal movements of the earthโ€™s crust with its fissures and subsidence. In addition, one of the most important moments in history is associated with the national park known for its natural beauty: the oldest democratic parliament in the world was founded here in 930. In the Geysir high-thermal area, famous for its colorful springs, basins and numerous water and steam outlets, you can find the famous Great Geyser (whose century-long activity, however, ended in 1915) and its still active "neighbor", Strokkur. Its water masses shoot up to 20 meters explosively about every 10 minutes. You continue to Gullfoss, one of the most impressive waterfalls in Europe. Above its two cascades rises a cloud of water vapor shimmering in all colors of the rainbow. Afterwards, we head to the western highlands, to the rhyolite area of Kerlingarfjรถll. Overnight stay in the guesthouse in Kerlingarfjรถll or Hveravellir.

  • Day 3 Kerlingarfjรถll, A True Witchโ€™S Kitchen 1ร—(B/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Kerlingarfjรถll, A True Witchโ€™S Kitchen 1ร—(B/M/A)

Today you have the whole day to explore the unique rhyolite area of Kerlingarfjรถll. The "Womenโ€™s Mountains" are also a high-temperature thermal area with wonderful short and longer hikes in a volcanically exceptional landscape: colorful mountains, dark obsidian knolls and white glaciers. Kerlingarfjรถll was formed by volcanic eruptions in the later Ice Age. The mountains are composed of rhyolite rocks as well as ocher and almost black hyaloclastite rocks, which are very rare in the world. Thus, the Kerlingarfjรถll differ significantly from the surrounding landscape both in shape and color. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 4 Kerlingarfjรถll - Dalvik 1ร—(F/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Kerlingarfjรถll - Dalvik 1ร—(F/M/A)

In the early morning your journey continues to the thermal area of Hveravellir, where there is enough time for a hot bath. In the river delta of Hรฉraรฐsvรถtn, you can relive the harsh living conditions of the 19th and early 20th centuries at the old peat homestead of Glaumbรฆr. You can also visit the small peat church Vรญรฐimรฝri. Via the small coastal village of Hofsos, where you can admire and photograph the particularly slender basalt columns, your route continues through wonderful landscapes, around the large peninsula of Trรถllaskagi

and through the dreamy fishing villages of Siglufjรถrdur and Olafsfjรถrdur. Your destination today is Dalvik.Overnight stay at the guesthouse.

  • Day 5 Whale Watching - Akureyri - Myvatn 1ร—(F/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Whale Watching - Akureyri - Myvatn 1ร—(F/M/A)

At the big fjord Eyarfjรถrdur you have the opportunity to watch humpback whales at close range (probably the best whale watching spot in Iceland). This excursion is optional (cost approx. 70,- โ‚ฌ) and you can decide on the spot. In the afternoon you will make an excursion to Akureryi, the so-called

capital of the north, and continue to Goรฐafoss. Here the horseshoe-shaped waterfall can be photographed extensively from both sides of the river. It is another hourโ€™s drive from here to the eastern shore of Mรฝvatn. Overnight stay in the guesthouse.

  • Day 6 Myvatn 1ร—(F/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Myvatn 1ร—(F/M/A)

Today the unique natural beauty of Myvatn is the focus of the day. Around Myvatn there are many worldwide unique volcanic phenomena to discover: pseudo craters, deep earth fissures, explosion craters, active fissure volcanoes, old lava lakes and much more. We will take some short walks and in the evening we can enjoy an extraordinary thermal bath near Myvatn. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 7 Malefic Desert And Askja Volcano 1ร—(B/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Malefic Desert And Askja Volcano 1ร—(B/M/A)

Early in the morning you will set off south, passing the ancient volcanoes Hrossaborg and Herdubreid through the Missetรคter Desert to the volcanic massif of Askja in the central highlands. From here you will begin your 2.5 km hike to the sulfur water-filled Viti Crater. In front of you is the large crater lake ร–skjuvatn and the almost 9 kilometer wide volcanic caldera - a unique view! In the afternoon you return to Mรฝvatn, where again a relaxing bath awaits you. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 8 Dettifoss - Borgarfjรถrdur Estri 1ร—(B/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Dettifoss - Borgarfjรถrdur Estri 1ร—(B/M/A)

From the impressive Myvatn area, we continue today to the most powerful waterfall in Europe: Dettifoss. One of Icelandโ€™s most powerful glacial rivers plunges into the 44-meter-deep basalt gorge here with a deafening roar. Your way leads you further east along the gorge of the river Jรถkulsรก รก Brรบ. At the tiny harbor of Borgarfjรถrdur Estri on the north coast, you can watch and photograph the puffins on a hill in a viewing shelter (July dates only). Overnight stay at the guesthouse in Bakkagerdi.

  • Day 9 Bakkagerdi - Berufjรถrรฐur 1ร—(B/M/A)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Bakkagerdi - Berufjรถrรฐur 1ร—(B/M/A)

If needed, you can stop by to see the puffins again this morning before continuing on to the East Fjords via Egilsstadir - a quiet, mysterious world awaits you here. It lies behind the big black beach and the black small sand dunes and you take enough time here to take extensive photos. Shortly before the big glacier lagoon you will reach your next accommodation.
