      Only about 20 kilometers from Quito is the equator! A great souvenir photo results at the monument, where you can stand with one leg on each hemisphere - however, the true line runs through the Inti Nan Museum, 180 meters further. Here you experiment with the force of the earthโ€™s gravity. Let yourself be surprised! Afternoon city tour of the historic Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site) with Independence Square, the beautiful cathedral and narrow cobbled streets. Finally, you will drive to Panecillo Hill, from where you will have a magnificent view of the city and the Cotopaxi volcano, weather permitting. (B/M)

      Day 3: Tradition Of The Andean People

      Early in the morning, you leave the capital of Ecuador and head north to the province of Imbaburra. In the small indigenous village of Peguche, which is known for its colorful ponchos, a local family will show you how the traditional garments are made. You will then be shown local instruments. You can stretch your legs on a hike to the Peguche waterfall before tasting the delicious Ecuadorian stew "Carne colorada" (easy, approx. 4 km, walking time: approx. 2 hours). On the way to Otavalo, stop at the Quicocha crater lagoon of the long-extinct Cotacachi volcano (4,939 m) and walk along the crater rim. 1 night in Otavalo. (F)

      Traditionally dressed otavalenos, exotic fruit stalls, huge potato sacks and barefoot load carriers: a sea of colors, colorful fabrics and all kinds of knickknacks await you at what is probably Ecuadorโ€™s most famous Indian market, which is also a popular meeting place for the tradition-conscious population. Haggle and bargain for your first vacation souvenir! In the afternoon you will reach the hot springs of Papallacta: In front of the incredible panorama of the Andes mountain range you will end the day in the hot springs. 1 night in Papallacta. (F)

      With its 5,897 meters, the snow-covered giant is one of the highest active volcanoes on earth. At the Limpiopungo lagoon, you will take a short walk and perhaps spot wild horses or an Andean condor. On the way to Riobamba, stop at the original indigenous market in Pujilรญ and have the opportunity to mingle with the locals. 1 night in Riobamba. (F)

      In Alausรญ you will get impressions of the life of the Tolte community and walk to a viewpoint over the "Devilโ€™s Nose". Enjoy the view of gigantic rock formations and deep canyons! Afterwards, visit the ruins of Ingapirca, probably the most important and best preserved Inca monument in Ecuador. Continue to Cuenca and spend 2 nights there. (F)

      Day 7: Colonial City Of Cuenca

      A full day in Cuenca! You will explore the colonial old town (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and visit, among others, the New and Old Cathedral, the Museum of Modern Art and the flower market, which welcomes you with bright colors and intense scents. At the end of the tour you will go to the viewpoint "Mirador de Turi" with great views of the city. If you can overcome your shyness, you will then have the opportunity to taste the traditional dish of the Ecuadorians: "Cuy asado" - grilled guinea pig. The afternoon is free for your own explorations. (F)

      Day 8: Through Cajas National Park To Guayaquil

      In the morning still mountain panorama, in the evening tropical coastal feeling: On the beautiful drive to Guayaquil you overcome almost 3,000 meters of altitude. On a cocoa and banana plantation you can taste Ecuadorโ€™s export hit and convince yourself of the special cocoa quality. Arriving in Guayaquil, you will discover the most beautiful sights during a short panoramic tour. 1 night in Guayaquil. (B/A)

  • Day 9 Day 9: Galapagos Islands

      Day 9: Galapagos Islands

      You leave the mainland and fly to the island of Baltra (entrance to the Galรกpagos National Park and transit card not included: approx. 200 USD). On the boat and bus trip to the port on Santa Cruz, you will already pass through some of the diverse climate zones and gain your first impressions of the islandโ€™s largely endemic flora and fauna. The journey continues by speedboat to Isabela. 2 nights there. (F/A)

  • Day 10 Day 10: Las Tintoreras

      Day 10: Las Tintoreras

      In the morning, visit the small island of Las Tintoreras. On a walk across the lava fields, you will come across marine iguanas warming themselves in the sun and sea lions blocking your path. White tip sharks are clearly visible in a small channel. The afternoon is at leisure. Ask for advice on excursions on site. (F)

  • Day 11 Day 11: Santa Cruz &Amp; Tortuga Bay

      Day 11: Santa Cruz &Amp; Tortuga Bay

      Crossing to Santa Cruz. In the Charles Darwin Research Station you will learn everything about the conservation efforts of the national park and experience the typical giant tortoises. Afterwards you will be accompanied by the whistling concert of the many finches during your hike to Tortuga Bay (easy, approx. 2.5 km, approx. 1.5 hrs.). During a break at the white sandy beach you will relax. 2 nights on Santa Cruz. (F)

      After breakfast, you will visit another island of the Galรกpagos archipelago worth seeing, e.g. the volcanic landscape of Bartolomรฉ Island, the small rocky island of South Plazas, home to numerous birds, iguanas and sea lions, or the "bird island" of Seymour Note, where the male magnificent frigate birds inflate their iridescent red throat sacs during courtship rituals.
