Following our monastery visit, our tour proceeds to the unexpected marvel of Ulpiana. Surprising as it may seem, Kosovo boasts its own remnants of the Roman Empire. Today, our journey takes us westward through the picturesque landscapes of Kosovo. Here, we have the pleasure of experiencing the rich flavors of Kosovo’s wines, as we indulge in a delightful tasting session. The town of Rahovec proudly boasts its significance in Kosovo’s wine industry, a tradition that dates back centuries. As a testament to the region’s long-standing viticulture, we encounter a remarkable sight—the tombstone of an Illyrian soldier dating back to 28 B.C. Adorned with intricately carved grape motifs, this tombstone symbolizes the deep-rooted history of winemaking in the area.

Leaving Rahovec behind, our journey continues to another natural wonder—Mirusha waterfalls. Standing apart from the other cascades in the Balkans, these waterfalls hold a special allure. The site is comprised of two distinct waterfalls, surrounded by stunning canyons formed by the relentless flow of water, amplifying the grandeur of the setting. During the winter months, a unique spectacle awaits as the waterfalls may be partially frozen, offering a breathtaking sight. This extraordinary monastery stands out with its pristine white exterior, but its true allure lies in the presence of Orthodox monks who still inhabit its hallowed grounds. Within its walls, these devoted individuals craft fresh organic delicacies, including delectable cheeses. The monastery earned its place on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2004, owing to its remarkable frescoes that depict both the lives of people during the 14th century and the transformative Palaeologan Renaissance, which revolutionized Byzantine painting.

Continuing our journey, we arrive in Gjakova, a city renowned for its oldest and largest bazaar in Kosovo. This poignant memorial complex comprises a memorial ground, a museum, and the house of the Adem Jashari family. The original house still bears the scars of the past, evident in the bullet holes that serve as a solemn reminder. Adem Jashari, a prominent figure, and 50 family members lost their lives in a tragic attack launched by the Serbian police force in 1998. Their untimely deaths sparked widespread protests across Kosovo and cemented Adem Jashari’s status as a national hero. As we explore the memorial, the legacy of Adem Jashari resonates, with his name and image reverently displayed throughout the country.
