Day 2: Small Tour Around Porto Moniz

From the ever-popular excursion destination of Porto Moniz at the northwestern end of Madeira, an old connecting path leads up to the neighboring village of Santa. The mill levada was once used to power the flour mills. Today, the water is used to irrigate the fields and to generate electricity. A nice introductory tour, which gives us a first insight into the diversity of culture, vegetation and agriculture. As a conclusion of this tour, we recommend a swim in the sea pool of Porto Moniz.

Day 5: The Valley Of The Nuns

The Valley of the Nuns owes its name to a pirate raid: the nuns retreated to this secluded valley, not visible from the sea, to escape the raid. Today you will hike from the viewpoint of Boca da Corrida in serpentines down to the valley floor. In front of you rises the massif of the Picos da Madeira with its countless rock needles stretching into the sky. Once on the valley floor, you will hike up the opposite slope to todayโ€™s destination: Eira do Serrado.
