      In the morning you will visit the colonial center of the 10 million metropolis Lima , the โ€œCity of Kingsโ€. See, among other things, the Plaza Mayor, which is surrounded by the mighty cathedral, the archbishopโ€™s palace and the government palace. In the crypt of the cathedral is the tomb of the cityโ€™s founder, the conqueror Francisco Pizarro. Afterwards, visit the San Francisco Monastery with its colonial-era library and impressive catacombs. The afternoon is free for us to relax, exchange money or simply โ€œarriveโ€. The sophisticated Miraflores district offers many opportunities for shopping, strolling and strolling. For example, go to the Larcomar shopping center and enjoy beautiful views of the Pacific.

  • Day 3 Lima - Caral - Huaraz

      Lima - Caral - Huaraz

      Early morning departure with our private vehicle from Lima via Supe to Caral (207 km, 3.5 hours), the oldest city on the American continent (from 2900 BC). It is only since 1994 that this huge 66 hectare complex of ruins has been researched and uncovered by the Peruvian archaeologist Ruth Shady. Tour of the extensive, impressive archaeological site, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009. Then we continue to Huaraz (245km). During the 5-hour journey you can enjoy a wide variety of landscapes from the desert to the Andean highlands.

  • Day 4 Huascaran National Park

      After breakfast, drive through the Huascarรกn National Park via the former Yungay, a town that was overrun and completely destroyed by an avalanche of ice and rubble in a severe earthquake in 1970, to the beautifully landscaped Llanganuco Lakes; On the way there are great panoramic views of the White Cordillera with many Nevados over 6000 m (including the Huascarรกn, at 6768 m the highest mountain in Peru). Walk along the lakeshore and possibility of a short boat trip. Then return to Huaraz(Distance 150 km, travel time 5 hours).

  • Day 5 Chavin De Huantar

      Chavin De Huantar

      which is referred to as the mother culture of the Andean civilizations (1200 - 200 BC). The archaeological complex, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1985 and whose structures are constructed of heavy granite and cantera stones, was particularly famous for the finds of the Raimondi Stele and the Lanzรณn Obelisk, located in a mysterious underground labyrinth-like tunnel system was discovered where you can still admire it. We then visit the National Museum of Chavin, where important finds from the Chavin culture are exhibited. Return to the hotel in Huaraz.

  • Day 6 Huaraz - Sechin - Trujillo

      In the morning, 3-hour drive from Huaraz to Casma (145 km) on a scenic, asphalted road. Visit to the Sechin temple complex and the associated archaeological Max Uhle Museum. Discovered in 1937 by the Peruvian archaeologist Julio C. Tello, the complex, which is estimated to be 3,200 - 3,500 years old, is particularly worth seeing because of its impressive bas-reliefs carved into the stone. Finds from important pre-Hispanic cultures are exhibited in the museum. Continue to Trujillo (distance 190 km, travel time 3 hours).

      Trujillo

      Trujillo, the third largest city in Peru, was founded in 1534 by order of the Spanish conqueror Francisco Pizarro and you can still feel the colonial atmosphere there. In the morning we visit the Moon Temple, a religious center of the Moche civilization, where archaeologists have discovered magnificent wall paintings and friezes. We then drive to Chan Chan, the largest mudbrick city in the world and former capital of the Chimu Empire. In the afternoon we walk along Huanchaco Beach to admire the traditional rush boats that local fishermen use in the same way as their Moche and Chimu ancestors.

      Immediately after breakfast we explore on foot the attractive and charming city center of Trujillo with the Plaza de Armas and the colonial, colorful buildings and churches. We then head to the El Brujo archaeological complex, where the mummy of "Seรฑora de Cao", a former Moche ruler, and her magnificent grave goods were found in 2006. Since April 2009, these finds have been exhibited in the Cao Museum next to the complexโ€™s ceremonial square. In the afternoon we reach Chiclayo, also called the โ€œCity of Friendshipโ€.

      Witchesโ€™ Market - Huaca Rajada - Museum Of The Tombs Of The Kings - Tucume

      After a short visit to the witch market in Chiclayo, where faith healers offer lots of dried herbs and fruits as well as all sorts of curiosities such as snake skins, animal skulls and calf fetuses, we drive to the Huaca Rajada archaeological site, where the tomb of the ruler of Sipan was found in 1987. Afterwards we visit the fantastic museum of the royal tombs of Sipan "Tumbas Reales" in Lambayeque - a real highlight of this tour. Hundreds of gold, silver and ceramic treasures of the Sipan ruler and other important Moche rulers found in Huaca Rajada are on display in this museum. This makes it one of the most important in South America.

      On our way to Chachapoyas today we visit the Tucume pyramids with the remarkable temple โ€œHuaca largaโ€, the longest mud brick structure in the world (about 700 m long). The Norwegian adventurer Thor Heyerdahl, who became famous for Kon-Tiki, explored these pyramids and found tombs with textiles, Inca figures and paintings. Our journey then takes us through beautiful and diverse landscapes to Cocachimba near the Gocta waterfall. The cloud warriors of the Chachapoyas culture once lived in this region, hidden in the dense cloud forest, dotted with orchids and bromeliads.

      Immediately after breakfast we hike to the impressive Gocta waterfall, which is the third highest in the world with 771 m of falling water and was measured just a few years ago by the German researcher Stefan Ziemendorff. During the easy hike we can enjoy a pristine cloud forest scenery with a variety of flora and fauna. The afternoon is at leisure in the garden and pool of the lodge with a view of the waterfall.

      Today we visit the sarcophagi of Karajรญa. These clay coffins of the Chachapoyas culture are over 2 m high, with flat, wide faces and decorated with geometric figures. They are strategically placed in the middle of a limestone rock. We then drive to our hotel in Chachapoyas.

  • Day 13 Kuelap Fortress

      Kuelap Fortress


      In the morning we visit the Kuelap fortress, a spectacular walled city from the pre-Inca period, hidden on a steep 3,000 m high rocky plateau. Since 2017, a modern cable car has been taking visitors to the excavation site. Kuelap was discovered 68 years before Machu Picchu and in the 9th century AD. Built by the Chachapoyas culture. The fort covers an area of โ€‹โ€‹approximately 7 hectares with 420 circular structures including a watchtower and a temple. The buildings have parallel friezes and arched niches in the walls. A narrow, brick tunnel-like corridor leads inside, strategically constructed to keep out intruders. After visiting the complex, we drive back to Chachapoyas, where we spend the night again.

  • Day 14 Revash - Mummy Museum Centro Mallqui - Leymebamba

      After breakfast we drive to San Bartolo and take a short hike to the colorful mausoleums of Revash, located on a promontory high on a rock. In the afternoon we visit the Centro Mallqui mummy museum in Leymebamba. Around 200 Chachapoyas mummies and their grave goods are on display there, which were discovered in 1997 at the nearby condor lagoon and brought to safety. The valuable collection, which was then threatened by looters and vandals, is now housed in this magnificent museum. We spend the night in a small, nice hostel in Leymebamba.

      In the morning we set off on a breathtaking drive via Balsas and Celendin to Cajamarca. We cross two cordilleras and several different vegetations, such as cloud forest, agricultural areas, desert-like zones and the Maraรฑon Canyon. This day trip is one of the most spectacular routes in Peru. Cajamarca is a pretty colonial town with historical significance. The first meeting between the Spanish conquerors and the Inca civilization took place there.

      After breakfast we take a trip to Cumbe Mayo, where we can take an easy hike and see huge rock formations as well as petroglyphs, caves and an impressive pre-Inca aqueduct from the Chavรญn era - unique in South America. Immediately afterwards we go on a city tour of Cajamarca. The cityโ€™s architecture is famous for its Baroque style, which cannot be found anywhere else in Peru. We discover the beauties of the city and visit the โ€œCuarto del Rescateโ€ gold room, which has become sadly famous. We then visit the Ventanillas de Otuzco, a huge burial site of the Cajamarca culture, before we drive to the nearby airport for the flight to Lima. In Lima you will be transferred to our hotel.

      On the last day of this fantastic trip we visit one of the best archaeological museums, the Lima has to offer, namely the Larco Herrera Museum. Here we get a complete overview of the most important pre-Hispanic civilizations in Peru in twelve halls with excellent exhibits. Afterwards we enjoy lunch together in a first-class restaurant, where we review the impressions and experiences we gained during the trip. We then say goodbye to Peru and are taken to the airport.
