Accommodation

We usually use self catering cottages at Wave Rock Resort. These are typically comfortable 2 bedroom one bathroom units. The bedrooms are usually configured as one room with a double and a single and the second room with 3 single beds. We take several cottages if we have bigger groups but would still plan to eat evening meals together but breakfast would be provided for you to have in your own cottage. If the cottages are not available we use the motel in Hyden which is not too far away from the Rock.

Others

Photographic support from professional photographer, Anna-Mair Francis. She has many years experience of helping people of all levels improve their photography. She will be on hand to help the group and on a one to one basis.

Transport

Land transport is included. We use a variety of vehicles depending on the size of the group ranging from a 5 door hatch for a small private tour to a comfortable 12 or 18 seater mini bus for larger tours.

Meals

All meals are included whilst on tour. We generally have picnic lunches (x3), for the evening meal we will have at least one BBQ and another hot meal. A breakfast basket (x2) will be provided for you to have breakfast at your leisure. We will have plenty of snacks in the car. We provide tea, coffee and water and juice for breakfast.

Not included:

Insurance

If you are an overseas guest you will need to have travel insurance whilst you are in Australia. We would advise Australian residents to have at least ambulance cover.

If you are coming as a single person and donโ€™t mind sharing a room we will endevour to place you in a room with someone else of the same sex. • Day 1 Day 1: Waterfall, Wheatbelt And Wildflowers
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 1: Waterfall, Wheatbelt And Wildflowers

We will meet at Guildford for a quick departure from the metro area and head East into the Perth Hills. Our first stop in Gidgegannup to photograph an iconic Australian rural is at some classic old farmhouses which are gradually falling down into the surrounding hillside before moving to a nearby waterfall to experiment with long exposure and landscape.

We will stop in York for a picnic lunch by the river and we have a choice of photographing landscape at the river or move into the Historic township to photograph there before we move on in to the Wheatbelt.

As we head across the countryside we will be keeping a sharp lookout for places to stop which have wildflowers or some scene which is interesting photographically. Our aim is the reach the town of Hyden before sunset to photograph at the railway yard.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Wave Rock, Wildflowers And Cave Art
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 2: Wave Rock, Wildflowers And Cave Art

Today we will start early with a dawn shot over the salt lake near our accommodation and then spend our time around Wave Rock visiting it at different times of the day to photograph it in a different light. We will seek out the wildflowers at the base of the rock, in the past, we have found several different types of orchid there. There will different flowers in the Bush as we walk through to Hippoโ€™s Yawn. There is an optional climb of the rock at some point (via the stairs) to photograph the unusual rocks at the top.

Close to Hyden are a cave where there are hundreds of handprints painted by the indigenous people who lived there many years ago. There will be more wildflowers in the immediate area as well as an old rusty truck which is very photogenic.

If we have the chance of a clear night we will return the the Rock or Lake Magic where the opportunities for astro photography are amazing.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Tin Horse Highway And Wheatbelt Towns
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Tin Horse Highway And Wheatbelt Towns

We start our return journey to Perth by heading slightly South. There are more places to stop for wildflowers if we havenโ€™t seen enough yet (can you ever see too many wildflowers?). We will drive the length of the Tin Horse Highway which is a stretch of road either side of the town of Kulin which hosts a bush horse race each year. The road has dozens of horsey sculptures made mostly from old oil tins that reflect the crazy Aussie humour.

Depending on the number of stops we make for the sculptures will depend on where we stop on the way home after that but our hope is the stop in the small towns of Corrigin and/or Brookton before returning through state forest to Perth at approximately 5.30pm.
