      How To Get To Worms

The almost 1000-year-old Romanesque imperial cathedral of St. Peter towers over Worms. From 15:00, the rooms in the Weinhotel Sandwiese in Worms are at your disposal. The hotel is located on the outskirts of Worms. It is not far from the train station by cab. If you are traveling by car, you can park your car in Worms for the duration of your trip. The tour guides will be waiting for you at the hotel reception at 16:00. After a welcome and a brief introduction to the tour, you will walk into the city center for a guided tour.

The city of the Nibelungs is full of culture and is home to numerous stories and legends. The Nibelung saga with Siegfried and Kriemhild is as much a part of the cityโ€™s identity as Martin Luther. The Romanesque imperial cathedral of St. Peter towers above Worms. The almost 1000-year-old church contains many gems that remain hidden to the casual observer, but still bear witness to the deep-rooted faith of medieval man. Do you know a tetramorph? We explain what this mythical creature is all about. Worms also has unique evidence of Jewish culture. The Jewish cemetery is the oldest of its kind in Europe!!! The oldest gravestone is that of Jakob ha-bachur and dates back to 1076. There are also several other gravestones from the 11th century. You can easily recognize them by their simple, rectangular shape, the "writing lines" and the framing of the inscription field. Numerous renowned Jewish scholars are also buried here. After the exciting tour, you will soon be back at the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the Weinhotel Sandwiese.

Through Idyllic Wine Villages To Deidesheim - 49 Cycling Kilometers - Easy Stage

The first cycle route starts directly at the hotel and takes you leisurely along the Pfrimm stream out of Worms. The mountain panorama of the Palatinate Forest lies before you. You soon reach the green vineyards of the wine route. It is not far to romantic Freinsheim. Numerous fortified towers crown the medieval town wall. Every meter of the town has been lovingly restored and we show you romantic alleyways and courtyards. Vine-covered walls and colorful half-timbered houses can be found at every turn. Freinsheim is one of the most beautiful towns on the Wine Route. From here, the cycle route leads to the most important wine villages in the Palatinate. You pass Bad Dรผrkheim and reach Wachenheim in the afternoon, where the ruins of Wachtenburg Castle tower over the town. Famous vineyards of renowned wineries line our route between Wachenheim and Deidesheim.

Here you can taste the excellent dry white wines and learn what makes biodynamic wine so special. Itโ€™s not far to get there, but the cycle route leads through green vineyards and requires a little more energy. You can already look forward to the wines with a typical Palatinate dinner. In Deidesheim, we show you some beautiful places in the town and reach the hotel in the late afternoon. For dinner, you have well earned the delicacies of Palatinate cuisine! Overnight stay at the 5-star Hotel Deidesheimer Hof in Deidesheim.

To The Memorial Of German Democracy To Hambach - 30 Km By Bike - Easy Stage

In the morning, our e-bikes are ready in front of the hotel for the ride to Hambach. First we cycle through Neustadt, with its pretty town center. Shortly after Neustadt, you can return the e-bikes, as Hambach Castle is enthroned high on a hilltop. The e-bike ride up here takes around half an hour. If you prefer, you can also take the comfortable terranova bus up to the top. The view of the Rhine plain is well worth the effort of the climb. In May 1832, an important chapter in German history was written at Hambach Castle: Thousands of freedom-loving citizens migrated here from Neustadt to celebrate a festival of freedom and unity. This is the birthplace of German democracy! From here, itโ€™s a wonderfully easy roll into the Rhine plain. Afterwards, you will learn all about winegrowing in the Palatinate from a winegrower and enjoy a refreshing lunch. The last cycle route of the day to our hotel takes you through one of the most beautiful places in the Palatinate: up to Villa Ludwigshรถhe. King Ludwig I of Bavaria had a classicist summer residence built here. Todayโ€™s hotel is located nearby. Simply enjoy the fact that you are "in the mildest part of the kingdom". Perhaps you would also like to stroll along the path to the hotel? Take your time, because today we are dining at the hotel. Enjoy the view over the green sea of vines from the hotel terrace and let the experiences of the day pass you by. A fresh, dry Riesling tastes particularly good! Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel "Das Prinzregent", Edenkoben.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Royal View Over The Frontier To France - 49 Km By Bike &Amp; 3 Km Hike - Easy Stage

A beautiful footpath along almond trees leads from the hotel to Villa Ludwigshรถhe. You start the day with a piece of Italy in the Palatinate: the kingโ€™s villa is classicist through and through. The king only stayed at Ludwigshรถhe eight times and had his furniture brought from Munich by train. The view over vineyard hills and idyllic villages explains why the king went to all this trouble.

The Riedbergbahn then takes you even higher up and you can enjoy even more distant views. Todayโ€™s cycle stage takes you downhill to a very special gourmet destination. A vinegar producer matures fine wine into even finer vinegar. Here you can taste the barrel-aged treasures and see for yourself that wine turned into vinegar can be a real treat. The landscape changes in the afternoon. You reach Landau. For a long time, the town was French and a heavily fortified border town. Today, the fortifications have been transformed into a green belt. Now orchards and lush green meadows make up the charm of the southern wine route. The atmosphere here is almost French and yet people speak Palatinate. As you stroll through the half-timbered alleyways of the picturesque spa town of Bad Bergzabern, you will discover both German and French delicacies and many other signs of the French way of life. You then cycle on to the Erlenbach Valley, where you spend the night and have dinner at the privately run Hotel Pfรคltzer Wald.

Through Wieslands And Forests To The Caison Dome To Speyer - 68 Bike Kilometers - Easy Stage

So: "Make your way to Speyer!"

(as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe had his Gรถtz von Berlichingen say)

Todayโ€™s destination is the city of Speyer with its world-famous Romanesque cathedral! As the burial place of Salian, Hohenstaufen and Habsburg rulers, it is virtually a symbol of medieval imperial rule. The cycle route starts directly at the hotel and leads leisurely downhill to the Rhine plain. Initially through vineyards, the cycle route later leads through meadows and forests. Once you arrive in the Rhine plain, you can experience how the tasty crops from the Palatinate made their way far and wide in a small brickworks museum! Even from a distance, the four towers of the mighty cathedral church indicate your destination and you soon reach the pretty little town of Speyer. The mighty sandstone walls rise powerfully into the sky. When Conrad II set about building the cathedral in Speyer after his election as German king in 1024, he had an ambitious goal: he wanted to build the largest cathedral in the entire Christian West in the midst of his family estate - the Salians were dukes of Rhine Franconia and counts in the Speyergau. During the reign of his grandson, Emperor Henry IV, the cathedral was consecrated in 1061. Over 50 imperial diets were also held in the shadow of the cathedral. And it was here that Bernard of Clairvaux was able to persuade the German King Conrad III and several thousand knights to take part in the Second Crusade with an eloquent sermon at Christmas 1146. The cathedral has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1981 and is now the largest preserved Romanesque church in the world. For the last night of the trip, you will sleep just a stoneโ€™s throw away from the cathedral in the renowned Hotel Domhof in Speyer.

  • Day 6 Discover Speyer Before You Go Home - 48 Bike Kilometers
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Discover Speyer Before You Go Home - 48 Bike Kilometers

After breakfast, we will guide you through the pretty town of Speyer. Speyer has a lot to offer: Old half-timbered houses, beautiful squares, an elegant town hall and, of course, the imposing cathedral! After the city tour in the morning, the last cycling stage through the Palatinate awaits you back to your starting hotel in Worms. From Worms, you can start your journey home in the afternoon if you do not extend your stay individually.
