  • Day 2 Day 2: Fly To Amboseli

      Day 2: Fly To Amboseli

      After a delicious breakfast at your hotel and a short 45 minutesโ€™ flight, you will start to taste the real Africa at the Amboseli National Park. This park, located on the Tanzanian border, is considered the best place to see free-ranging elephants in all of Africa. You will also see plenty of giraffes, lions, and cheetahs in a variety of habitats including marshes, plains, woodlands and more. Mount Kilimanjaro, the worldโ€™s highest free-standing mountain, watches over this national treasure. The afternoon game drive will show all these wonders to you and more. It will be hard to tear yourself away from the park, but it will be well worth it to stay at the Tortilis Camp, a truly authentic African luxurious camp with elegant furnishings featuring unrivalled views of the Kilimanjaro.       The day starts with breakfast and a morning game drive where youโ€™ll see white rhinos, wildebeests, zebras and many other species. Undoubtedly, you will also see many of the more than 400 species of birds that inhabit the park. Amazingly, the sites you see in the morning will be quite different from those youโ€™ll see on the afternoon game drive as the various creatures respond to their unique biological clocks.Depending on the time of year, the terrain will vary โ€“ from Ernest Hemingwayโ€™s โ€œSnows of Kilimanjaroโ€ to the hot dry summer to the life-giving rainy season โ€“ but it will always be beautiful. The routes taken will depend on weather conditions but they all offer unforgettable scenery, so keep your camera ready.       Once again you will be able to experience game-drives in the morning and in the afternoon. Both drives will give you great wildlife viewing opportunities. You will see large herds of local grazing animals going by, and also have a good chance of seeing some of the big five. You will also have the chance to take a โ€œwalking safariโ€ for a close up view of Kenya, along with an optional visit to an authentic tribal village. When you need a break, take a dip in the campโ€™s pool or take a nap in your cool, comfortable tent. After all these adventures, you will be more than ready for a mid-day nap, a dip in the pool or laze on the veranda to escape the heat of the day.   • Day 5 Day 5: Fly To Samburu National Park

      Day 5: Fly To Samburu National Park

      After hearty breakfast at Tortilis Camp, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Nairobi then on to Samburu. On arrival, you will be chauffeured to the exclusive Larsens Camp. This luxurious tented camp situated on the banks of Uaso Nyiro river offers spacious tents discreetly sited along the west bank of the river with the result that the tents are bathed with light at sunrise. During your stay here you can take a dip in the freeform pool, and after a day of safari activities enjoy sundowners while watching traditional Samburu warrior dances. In the afternoon, enjoy an afternoon game drive, accompanied by your expert guides, in search of a wide range of animals. Samburu is home to large herds of elephants, and the reserve is well known for providing the opportunity to see wildlife that only lives in the dry north of Kenya. Be on the lookout for gerenuks - these odd, yet distinguished looking, gazelle have long necks, and stand on their hind legs to feed.       Several species including the long-necked gerenuk, Grevyโ€™s zebra, Beisa oryx and reticulated giraffe can be seen on private game-drives that take place in the morning and afternoon. Since the area has very little grass cover, you may be able to see some cheetahs and lions near the river banks. Mount Ololokwe, a tabletop mountain, can be seen across the red plains and scrub that make up the desert scenery in the area. This desert area is home to the Ewaso Ngiro River, which is an important watering hole for the many species in the area and is a large part of what makes Kenyan safaris enjoyable for wildlife enthusiasts. For those wanting to experience something a little different today, a walking safari, camel ride or a visit to a local tribal village are optional extras. Here is where youโ€™ll find the grasslands, the lions, the jackals, the wildebeests and more. This will also be your opportunity to get to know the Maasai, the semi-nomadic natives of Kenya. These cattle-herding people have managed to preserve their way of life through the centuries; visiting them is an enriching experience. Tonight youโ€™ll stay at the exquisite Karen Blixen Camp set on the bank of the Mara River on a truly spectacular location. Throughout the day elephants, giraffes, zebras and impalas come for a drink while a large hippo pod rest lazily in the river. Today youโ€™ll have both a morning and an afternoon game drive and youโ€™ll marvel at how completely different they are. You will be able to see Kenyaโ€™s famed wildlife up close; including cheetahs, zebras, buffalo, wildebeests, hyenas, antelope, giraffes and lions. These drives will certainly provide a number of outstanding photo opportunities. The well-appointed accommodations at the Karen Blixen Camp include private verandas and restrooms located en suite. You can easily catch a quick nap in your room, or visit the pool and bar area while youโ€™re waiting for your next game-drive. It is an unforgettable experience that is not to be missed. No matter when you visit, you will also have a chance to take a โ€œwalking safariโ€, or visit a local tribal village if you wish. You will learn about the Maasai way of life and how they have managed to retain their semi-nomadic customs even in todayโ€™s modern world, when so much of their world is at risk. After you enjoy a leisurely breakfast at your camp, you will be transferred to the local airstrip for your flight to Nairobi where you check-in to your hotel to rest and relax. A complimentary farewell dinner awaits you before you depart. You later transfer to the airport in Nairobi and connect with your outbound flight home, carrying a lifetime of memories from your African Safari with you.
