Transport: African Sunsets Travel uses fully equipped Toyota Land Cruisers, Sprinters, 12-seater 4×4 safari vehicles or other appropriate vehicles with comfortable seating, large windows for game viewing, a music and PA system.We endeavor to ensure that air-conditioning is provided, however we are unable to guarantee this for vehicles traveling through Kenya and Tanzania. All luggage, besides hand luggage and photo equipment, is carried on the vehicle or trailer roof racks to ensure maximum comfort in the vehicle. Some game drives may be conducted in open-sided safari vehicles.

Meals: Where included most breakfasts and dinners will be enjoyed in the restaurants of the various accommodation establishments, however on certain nights the guide will provide an authentic meal for the group, which will be enjoyed together in the evening, often around a campfire. Things to do in Amboseli Hot Air Balloon Safari - This optional activity is an additional cost of $ 550 by pre-arrangement After breakfast you can be one of only a few fortunate people to glide in a Hot Air Balloon over the Amboseli. Experience ﬂoating silently above the awakening bush while spotting wildlife and enjoying the amazing scenery of Africa, across rivers and over numerous small villages. On the plains, enormous herds of grazing animals, plus the elusive cheetah and leopard hiding amidst acacia boughs can be seen. After this optional balloon ride, the search for great predators and perhaps even cubs continues during an extensive game drive after lunch. You can also discover the African Culture by visiting a local Maasai Village before returning to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Amended Booking Policy 07/2020 African Sunsets Travel is committed to providing our agents and guests both flexibility and security in these uncertain times. We have therefore amended our original revised terms & conditions on COVID-19. The below terms as outlined will replace the previous release and are applicable as of 18th May 2020. These conditions will remain in place until such time as the WHO declares the pandemic over, or restrictions impacting inbound travel in the countries African Sunsets Travel operates in are lifted, by which time African Sunsets Travels’ standard terms & condition will be activated again. The below terms & conditions apply to all African Sunsets Travel Guided Private Tours in Southern African and East Africa. We will endeavour to apply the same terms for tailor-made travel, however these may differ depending on our partner’s policies.     Confirmed Bookings Travelling 01 May – 31 December Guided Private Safaris: Anyone travelling between 1st May and 31st December 2020 can postpone to any time or season for future dates up until the end of December 2021. In the event that guests are travelling after December 2020; we recommend waiting before making a decision on moving the departure. We are currently prioritising travellers with immediate travel plans and guests travelling until the end of December 2020. We will retain or request if not paid already the 50% deposit paid for the original booking and will apply standard payment terms to the revised dates. All deposits have to be pre-paid with immediate effect. If guests are unsure of their future travel arrangements, we will automatically provisionally book them for the same dates in 2021. This will be subject to availability. In these instances, provisional bookings will be held for 90 days which allows guests time to consider when they’d like to travel. Should guests want to postpone travel booked after the currently proposed “Hibernation” period (travel starting from 01 January 2021), our standard cancellation fee will apply. This may be amended depending on border closures and/or travel bans being lifted. We recommend that guests wait until 45 days prior to their confirmed date of travel in order to monitor the global status of travel restrictions. Once a booking has been postponed to new dates in 2020 or 2021, our standard cancellation and payment terms and conditions will apply to the new travel dates. The above cancellation terms apply for all African Sunsets Travels’ guided group tours. Confirmed Bookings Travelling 01 May – 31 August 2021 FIT Travel and Private Guided Safaris: For FIT travel and private guided safaris, we will endeavour to apply the same policies, however this is subject to third party supplier negotiation and will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Once a FIT booking or Private guided safari has been postponed to new dates for travel later in 2020 or 2021, any further postponement arrangements prior to 60 days before travel will carry an admin fee of US$ 300 per booking.       New Bookings – Free Cancellation & More Flexibility In order to provide guests and partners with more flexibility and security, we have revised our terms & conditions for new bookings on Guided Private Safaris: Extension of all 2020 rates until 31st December 2021 until further notice. Any bookings made + 90 days prior to arrival, are allowed to be provisionally held for 21 days until further notice. Should we receive a confirmed booking for the spaces hold, we will require you to confirm your booking within 5 days with a deposit being paid. Free cancellation for any new bookings received up to 30 days before travel if reason for cancellation is COVID-19 related (please see details below). In order to confirm a booking, a deposit will be requested as per our standard T&Cs and booking will be 100% refundable for cancellation, less 8% administration and bank fees,  up to 30 days before the date of arrival. Final payment will be requested as per our standard T&C’s. Standard Cancellation Policy for bookings on Guided Private Safaris: 21 days to 29 days prior to departure: 30 % of the total rate 14 days to 20 days prior to departure: 50 % of the total rate 8 days to 13 days prior to departure: 80 % of the total rate Less than 8 days prior to departure: 95 % of the total rate Refund Policy for New Bookings if Cancellation Occurs due to Covid-19 Related Reasons Between confirmation and 30 days prior to arrival: 100 % refund of monies received, less 8% administration and bank fees or credit to the value of money received for postponed / future travel. From 30 days prior to arrival: Cancellation fee will be charged as per above; the outstanding amount will either be refunded or held as credit for future travel. These revised cancellation terms only apply to COVID-19 related reasons for cancellation, these include: The World Health Organisation has not revised the Pandemic status The government in the guest’s country of residence restricts all but essential travel The destinations the guest is travelling to are under official government sanctioned lockdown that prohibits guests from traveling. If some but not all of the destinations are impacted the guest will be offered the option to re-route into other destinations, refunded or held as a credit according to the revised policy. The destinations have no formal lock-down but have closed their border either to international travellers or to travellers from the guest’s country of residence. International flights are cancelled with no alternative routing available for guests to use to reach the destinations in the itinerary. Our guide will be at Jomo Kenyatta Airport to pick you up from your ﬂight. Depending on your arrival time you can visit some of Kenya’s craft markets where you can browse the pottery, carvings, batik, weaving, sculpture, musical instruments, leather and fabrics for sale. Prepare to haggle! All activities today are at your own cost. You will spend the night in the tranquility of Panafric Hotel; ideally located on the outskirts of Nairobi. The rooms have an en-suite bathroom and overlook the tropical gardens. There is a swimming pool to refresh yourself.

At 8am, your guide will pick you up from the Hotel or Airport and travel to Masai Mara through The Great Rift Valley and Narok, a Masai Mara Town.

Mara is an enormous reserve; actually part of the vast Serengeti plains famously known for its spectacular great wildebeest migration and is home of the “Big Five’’ including lion, elephant, leopard, buffalo and rhino You will arrive at the Sarova Mara Game Lodge where you will check-in and have lunch.

After lunch you will take off on an afternoon game drive through the park in search of the lion, cheetah, elephant, buffalo and other animals. Later in the evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

After breakfast you check-out of the lodge and make your way to Lake Nakuru National Park. On the ﬂoor of the Great Rift Valley surrounded by wooded and bushy grassland, lies the beautiful park. Lake Nakuru National Park is ideal for bird watching, hiking, picnicking and game drives.

You will see flamingos and other waterfowl and a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species. You will see over 56 different types of animal including white rhino, waterbuck and more! Key view-points to see are Lion Hill, Baboon Cliff and Out of Africa Hills including Enasoit, Honeymoon, Lion Hill Ridge, as well as the Makalia Waterfalls.

There are over 550 different plant species including the unique and biggest euphoria forest in Africa Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodlands to view. Later in the evening you will head to Sarova Lion Hill for dinner and your overnight stay.

Rise early for breakfast before continuing the adventure with a drive south for a boat ride on Lake Naivasha. Providing habitat for hundreds of bird species and hippos, the lake is located at one of the highest elevations in the Rift Valley. Leave it behind, as the tour proceeds towards Nairobi for a picnic lunch.

Head south to Amboseli National Park, arriving at Ol Tukai Lodge by late afternoon. The lodge lies at the heart of the park, which is itself at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa. This area is considered one of the best spots for viewing elephants at close range. At Ol Tukai Lodge, cottage-style accommodation spreads out on either side of the main lodge. The architecture features lots of wood, local stone, and slate. Each room has an uninterrupted view of either the wetlands or Kilimanjaro. There is a relaxing swimming pool shaped like a number eight and plenty of sun loungers. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Overnight at Amboseli.

Most of the park consists of a partially dry lake bed of evaporated salts and fragile grassland with patches of acacia woodland. You can see most types of game in the park, including rhinos, giraffes, gazelles, lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Birdlife is prolific, too, especially around the swamp areas. This entire experience is carried out under the shadow of the majestic Mount Kilimanjaro, which rises some 5,000 meters above the national park. After breakfast, make the short journey to the border with Tanzania and then head to the city of Arusha for lunch. In the afternoon, depart Arusha and pass through the Maasai Steppe, a landscape dotted by many picturesque tribal villages as well as maize, coffee, and banana plantations. Turn north-west at the town of Makuyuni and continue through a scenic escarpment that brings you to Lake Manyara Serena Lodge. The magnificent lodge is perched on the edge of the Rift Valley and boasts mesmerising views over the distant Lake Manyara. The African-style lodges are grouped around a dramatic infinity pool, which is accessed via a bridge over a small stream. Slightly above the pool are the central dining room, a bar and a charming veranda. All these are located on the very edge of a cliff that overlooks the lake, the pool, and the observation point. The accommodation itself is in two-storey thatched rondavels, which are dotted along the edge of the cliff. All have captivating views of the lake. Breakfast, lunch and dinner included.

After a tasty breakfast in Lake Manyara National Park, indulge in a thrilling game drive. This park is famous for its varied birdlife – notably flamingos – in the wet season and large mammal viewing in the dry season. Tree-climbing lions, large-tusked elephants, and one-and-a-half-tonne hippos are among the denizens of this fascinating park. Return to the lodge for lunch and then head north-west, to the north of Ngorongoro Conservation Area, driving across the hilly countryside of the highlands. From here, lie the vast plains of the Serengeti, where you’ll hopefully start spotting game well before you enter the park. Accommodation is in the Serengeti Serena Safari Lodge, which is located near the famous Western Corridor and River Grumeti. The lodge has been designed to blend completely into the living landscape and features rondavels, which are cooled by groves of acacia trees and watered by sparkling streams. Explore Serengeti Safaris

After breakfast you will have a full day game drive along the Sogore River Circuit looping into the plains south of the Seronera River. This area is a great location to view lions, gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah. The visitor’s center, not far from the Serengeti Seronera Lodge and public campsites has a shop where cold drinks and snacks can be purchased, as well as a picnic area and information trail up and around a nearby Kopje. Here you will enjoy a relaxed picnic lunch in the shade of the acacia trees.

After lunch you will follow the Kopjes Circuit which usually attracts a number of lions and some formidably large cobra. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops, scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems providing shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the Kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons. Later in the evening you will return to the lodge for dinner and your overnight stay.

Take to the road after breakfast for a breathtaking drive to Ngorongoro Crater. Enjoy a pause along the way for a picnic lunch and for viewing game in the Serengeti plains. Continue to the Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge. Perched high on the rim of the crater, the lodge blends with the landscape to appear almost camouflaged among the vegetation. The lodge hugs the contours of the rim, taking its inspiration from the nearby prehistoric site of Olduvai Gorge, known as the ‘Cradle of Mankind’. Linked by arched stone passages and timbered decks, the walls are bedecked with stylised prehistoric cave paintings and lit by flaming torches. At the heart of the lodge burns a glowing fire, which is kept constantly alight. Rooms are decorated with cave paintings and strung around the rim. A spellbinding experience awaits you this morning as you explore what is considered to be the world’s largest wildlife zoo. After breakfast, descend through the early morning mists to the basin of the crater, some 600 metres below the rim, for a picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and due to its size – it has a diameter of 19km – and diversity, the crater floor features distinct areas that range from forests, swamps, lakes and springs to open grasslands and sandy dunes. The crater has traditionally been inhabited by the Maasai people, who share it with more than 25,000 wild animals, including black rhinos, wildebeests, zebras, eland, gazelles, lions, leopards, elephants, buffalo, spotted hyenas, jackals, cheetahs, and many more. Depart the Ngorongoro Crater after breakfast and head south-east towards Lake Manyara, Mto Wa Mbu village and Tarangire National Park. Through the highlands and the Karatu district, pass scenic wheat plains and coffee plantations, journeying down a spectacular escarpment before arriving at the park and on to Tarangire Sopa Lodge.

Enjoy a game drive en-route. After lunch, the remainder of the afternoon is spent on a game drive of the park, which is home of one of the greatest concentrations of elephants in Africa and other game, including zebras and lions. More than 550 bird species can be spotted here as well. Surrounded by ancient baobab trees, the lodge is almost hidden among the kopjes of the national park. A broad veranda wraps itself around the lodge and offers prime viewing over a waterhole below which fills during the dry season and becomes a magnet to wildlife.
