Itinerary
This is a 5-day walk in the northern part the Maya Biosphere Reserve, the largest protected area in Central America. Here weโll go in search of the Mayan city of El Mirador, one of the largest and most important of Mayan history. The city hosts several interesting structures such as the La Danta Pyramid (the highest in the Mayan World and the largest in volume in the world) and the Twin Brothers Panel that, according to the site's archaeologists, is evidence of the Popol Vuh, the sacred Mayan book. During the trip you will pass through the archaeological sites of El Tintal (a Mayan city surrounded by a canal that provided water to its inhabitants) where youโll be able to spot an impressive sunset in the jungle from the Henequen Pyramid; and the La Muerta where archeologist found a petroglyph with early evidence of the reign of the Kan Dynasty. All services are provided by Carmelita, a community that has lived for years on the resources of the forest, and who will share their culture and traditional way of life in the jungle.
