      After the long journey, you reach the island of New Guinea in the first light of dawn. After your early arrival in Port Moresby, there is time to arrive and have breakfast. In the afternoon you will visit the National Museum and the Nature Park. Overnight stay at the hotel. (Travel time approx. 20 min.).

      PNG is difficult to access. There are still no roads between Port Moresby and Mount Hagen. The terrain of the highlands ensures that this is unlikely to change for a long time. Therefore, a short flight takes you to the highlands. You drive to the village of Kagai, from where you get your first glimpse of the breathtakingly beautiful landscape of the highlands. There is time to enjoy the surroundings on a first hike. Overnight stay at the hotel. (Travel time approx. 3h; walking time approx. 1h, 400 mโ†‘โ†“).

  • Day 5 Day 5: Mount Hagen - Kumul - Paikuna

      Day 5: Mount Hagen - Kumul - Paikuna

      In the morning you drive up to an altitude of approx. 2800 m. With a bit of luck, you may spot birds of paradise at Kumul. The forests around Kumul Lodge are considered one of the best places in the whole country to find the colorful "Birds of Paradise". The day is also used for acclimatization. A scenic drive takes you along artfully landscaped fields and vistas. On the way, there is time for a walk and further exploration of the rainforest. Overnight stay in a lodge. (Travel time approx. 2 hours).

  • Day 6 Day 6: First Summit: Mount Hagen (3765 M)

      Day 6: First Summit: Mount Hagen (3765 M)

      The hike on Mount Hagen begins with the first rays of sunshine. Directly from the lodge, the trail leads through a beautiful grassy landscape, which is gradually swallowed up by the jungle. You hike uphill and cover numerous meters in altitude until you finally reach the summit at 3765 m above sea level. The view sweeps over the surrounding mountains and valleys as well as the town of Mount Hagen before you return to the lodge on foot. Overnight stay as on the previous day. (Walking time approx. 7h, 1400 mโ†‘, 1400 mโ†“, 16 km).

  • Day 7 Day 7: Mount Giluwe Ascent (Base Camp)

      The day begins with an exciting drive in a four-wheel drive vehicle to Kagoba, where you will be met by your team of mountain guides and porters for the ascent of the Giluwe. Today you walk through wide grasslands to the base camp. A team of porters will be waiting for you there with tents already set up and a freshly prepared dinner. Please note: the night can get very cold. (Travel time approx. 2h; walking time approx. 8h, 1500 mโ†‘, 480mโ†“, 18 km).

      Itโ€™s summit day! The sharp start at around 4 a.m. is followed by a four-hour climb to the "oceanic representative" of the Seven Summits. After the summit bliss on the Giluwe, enjoying the view and patting each other on the back, we descend to base camp. There is time for a rest. You then descend further to spend the night in a newly built camp on the way to Mount Hagen. (Walking time approx. 10h, 1240 mโ†‘ 2270 mโ†“, 22 km).

      Day 9: Trekking Back To Mount Hagen

      The way back to Mount Hagen takes you along new paths. After a dayโ€™s hike, you reach the village of Mailka, from where a four-wheel drive vehicle takes you back to Mount Hagen. Overnight stay at the hotel. (Walking time approx. 5h, 800 mโ†‘, 700 mโ†“, driving time approx. 2h).

  • Day 10 Day 10: Rest Day: Sing-Sing Of The Melpa

      Day 10: Rest Day: Sing-Sing Of The Melpa

      After the long trekking days on Mount Giluwe, Papua New Guinea awaits you today with typical local culture. In the nearby Nebylar Valley, the Melpa people will show you their everyday life, old traditions, the village and, of course, a sing-song. In short: more about the challenging life in the highlands. Return to Mount Hagen and overnight stay at the hotel. (Travel time approx. 1.5 hours).

  • Day 11 Day 11: Drive To Simbu

      Day 11: Drive To Simbu

      With the next highlight in sight, you drive to the province of Simbu. Highlight is to be taken literally here, as the summit destination of Mount Wilhelm is the highest elevation in the country. You set off from the village of Womatne on a less frequented route and hike through untouched high mountain landscapes. You spend the first night in the remote village of Songo. There you will receive a traditional welcome and experience a captivating singing performance. You will be one of the first tourist groups ever to visit this area. Overnight stay in a simple homestay. (Travel time approx. 2 hours; walking time approx. 2 hours, 480 mโ†‘, 4 km).

  • Day 12 Day 12: Mount Wilhelm Ascent (Camp 1)

      Day 12: Mount Wilhelm Ascent (Camp 1)

      A full-day hike through typical bushveld leads uphill. In the afternoon you reach the first camp at an altitude of approx. 3500 m. Overnight stay in a tent. (Walking time approx. 5h, 1200 mโ†‘, 280 mโ†“, 8 km).

  • Day 13 Day 13: Mount Wilhelm Ascent (Camp 2)

      A relaxed hike along a river and through fern forests takes you to Camp 2, the starting point for the summit day on Mount Wilhelm. Overnight stay in a tent. (Walking time approx. 4h, 800 mโ†‘, 700 m โ†“, 4 km).

  • Day 14 Day 14: Mount Wilhelm Ascent (4509 M)

      The hike to the summit begins at 3:00 am. After a three-hour hike over rocky terrain, you will experience the sunrise over Papua New Guinea. The descent on the other side of the mountain takes you to the Piunde Lakes, where you set up your last camp. Overnight stay in a tent. (Walking time approx. 7h, 980 mโ†‘ 1400mโ†“, 10 km).

  • Day 15 Day 15: Gembogl - Mount Hagen

      A final hike takes you to Gembogl, where you will be rewarded for the efforts of the last few days with a lunch of fresh trout. Drive back to Mount Hagen. Overnight stay at the hotel. (Travel time approx. 2h; 300 mโ†‘, 1400 mโ†“, 10 km).

  • Day 16 Day 16: Back In Port Moreby

      At midday, flight back to Port Moresby. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

      Take the boat to Fisherman Island - an island off the coast of Port Moresby. You will explore the settlement and have the opportunity to relax on the beach. Drive back to Port Moresby. Overnight stay at the hotel.
