From here you can easily explore the east of the island. Highlights include the Ponta de Sao Lourenco peninsula, the basket weavers in Camacha and a trip to the Pico do Arieiro (1,818 m).       Individual drive north to the tranquil village of Santana. Here you will find an increasing number of so-called Madeira houses, traditional farmhouses with pointed thatched roofs, only a few of which are still inhabited. Others are traditionally furnished and can be viewed from the inside. The district of Santana has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 2011. 2 nights in Santana at Hotel O Colmo (upper middle class, national category: 4 stars).       Today you travel to the lively capital of Madeira, which has retained its charm over the centuries. It nestles in a sun-drenched bay at the foothills of the islandโ€™s mountains and has plenty to offer. Visit the colorful market hall, stroll through the cozy old town or take the cable car to the famous village of Monte, which is known for its basket sled rides. A visit to the Christiano Ronaldo Museum, the cityโ€™s famous son, right next to the harbor is also very attractive. Or you can sample a fine Madeira wine in one of the many wineries.
