Day 1: On To The Wonders Of Malaysia

Ready for an adventure? Then letโ€™s get started - youโ€™re flying to Kuching. In Malaysia you can expect a colorful mixture of cultures and apparent contrasts, which know how to exist in harmony with each other. You will encounter different religions, languages, architectural styles from different eras, modernity and tradition as well as fascinating natural spectacles.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Welcome To Kuching In The State Of Sarawak
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 2: Welcome To Kuching In The State Of Sarawak

Then the time has come. You land at Kuching airport, where your tour guide is already waiting for you full of anticipation. Kuching means cat in Malay, but donโ€™t worry, live cats are no more common here than in other cities. However, there are cat figures on almost every street corner. You will be taken to your hotel and can first recover from the flight. You will then get a taste of Malaysian cuisine over dinner. Whether spicy-hot, hearty or sweet: there is something for every culinary taste.

  • Day 3 Day 3: On Animal Observation: Orangutans, Nose Monkeys &Amp; Co.
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: On Animal Observation: Orangutans, Nose Monkeys &Amp; Co.

Originally, orphaned and formerly captive orangutans were given the opportunity to live in the wild at Semenggok Wildlife Park. The "forest dwellers" were (re)trained here in the skills they needed for a life in the wild. And with success! In the meantime, a group of semi-wild orangutans has populated the surrounding nature reserve and reproduced. The center has existed since 1975 and since then there have been so many reintroductions that the surrounding forest has now reached the limits of its capacity. The rehabilitation work has been moved to another wildlife park and here in Semenggok the main focus is now on studying the species and behavior of the orangutans. You arrive in time for the morning feeding. A park employee has bananas, coconuts and other things ready for the orangutans. With a bit of luck, you will see the animals shimmy along the ropes towards the feeding platform to secure a free breakfast. After spending about an hour in the wildlife park, you will then take a drive through the picturesque landscape, which is dotted with typical rice fields, cocoa and pepper plantations. You drive past tropical forests and rivers until you reach a Bidayuh village. Here you can get your hands on the cooking spoon today and prepare an authentic lunch together with your hosts. The ingredients come from the farm or have been sourced from โ€™jungle shoppingโ€™ - wild herbs, fruit, sprouts and leaves are of course all edible and are prepared in special bamboo containers. For dessert, thereโ€™s "tuak", a rice wine typical of the region. Afterwards, you have some time to explore the farm, relax or take a refreshing dip in the stream. If you still have energy left, you can of course help with the farm work before heading back to Kuching.

      Meals
The included meals are breakfast and lunch.

      Accommodation
      Meritin Hotel [overnight stay]
The Meritin Hotel is also your accommodation today.

      Notes

  • Day 4 Day 4: Culture And Nature Of Sarawak
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Culture And Nature Of Sarawak

Kuching is perfect for exploring on foot! And thatโ€™s exactly what you do in the morning. You stroll through Jalan Padungan, an old street with typical store houses, and visit a Chinese tea store. As well as tea, you can also try Kong Piah, a regional pastry with sesame seeds. In the lively Chinatown, visit the Tua Pek Kong, the oldest Chinese temple in Sarawak, before reaching the waterfront on the Sarawak River. Take a look at the colonial buildings such as the Astana, a palace, and the old courthouse in the distance, as well as the Margherita Fortress. You continue your stroll through Lebua Carpenter, a street with nice shops and cafรฉs, and finally wander through the Indian part of the city. After lunch, head to Damai and explore the Kuching Wetlands National Park by boat. An area of 66.1 square kilometers of mangrove coast is protected here as a habitat for many birds and other animals. There is a good chance of seeing Irrawaddy dolphins in the estuary during the dry season from April to November. In the rainy season from December to March, the animals are more difficult to spot. In addition to proboscis monkeys, you are also very likely to see macaques and silver leaf monkeys and crocodiles, which are not always obviously lurking for prey in the shade of the mangroves during the day.

      Catering
The included meals consist of breakfast and lunch.

      Accommodation
      Cove 55
Cove 55 is about a five-minute drive from Mount Santubong and 35 minutes from Kuching. The boutique hotel with its 13 rooms impresses with its great location on the edge of the national park and the beautiful view of the South China Sea. The air-conditioned rooms are tastefully decorated in white, blue and turquoise, comfortably furnished and have a balcony. Look forward to two outdoor pools, including an infinity pool with sea views and a library. A restaurant and bar cater for your culinary needs. End the day at sunset with a cocktail in your hand. The ideal end to an eventful day in a relaxed atmosphere.

      Notes
The route covers approx. 40 km by bus. You will be out and about in the Kuching Wetlands National Park for approx. 3 hours by boat.

Day 5: From Kuching To Gunung Mulu National Park

In the morning, you will fly to Mulu, where you will spend the next two days exploring Gunung Mulu National Park. Named after the mountain Gunung Mulu, the national park is listed as a UNESCO natural heritage site. The caves there have only been scientifically explored since the 1960s. You hike along a wooden plank path to Lang Cave with its impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The Deer Cave, which is visited afterwards, holds the record for the longest cave in the world. A proud 2,160 meters underworld. Incidentally, the small and large piles of guana hint at the countless lodgers - bats. Back at your accommodation, the dream of a carefree life of well-being comes true. At night, when the hour of the day-shy creatures strikes, you wonโ€™t believe your eyes on a hike. In the light of a flashlight, luminescent mushrooms and flashing fireflies are just some of the surprises you can expect.

      Catering
Breakfast and dinner are included in the price.

Day 6: Underground Forays In Mulu

After your breakfast, which is accompanied by the sounds of the jungle, you will travel a little way up the Melenau River in a traditional longboat, depending on the water level. In the airy Wind Cave, you can view the impressive stalactite formations and visit a 1,000-year-old burial site. The highlight is the Kings Room chamber. You can reach the nearby Clearwater Cave with its huge cave system on foot. The longboat then takes you back to your accommodation. As the day draws to a close, a walk on a treetop trail gives you the opportunity to observe animals or watch the blurred contours above the treetops in the soft sunlight. Then decide what you feel like doing: relaxing in your accommodation or going on a hike? Perhaps to the Paku waterfall, hidden in the green thicket, or along the 1.5-kilometre Nature Heritage Trail, which provides information about the nature of the forest.
