In Krakow he has also experience the unimaginable cruelty of World War II and then communism.  The route of the โ€œJohn Paul II trailโ€ tour goes through the places which are particularly associated with Karol Wojtyla: starting from the Jagiellonian University, where he studied, through the Wawel Cathedral, where he sought spiritual guidance and confession and where he celebrated his first Mass, his apartment on Kanonicza street, the Franciscan Church, where he prayed often, to the Bishopโ€™s Palace where he held the bishopโ€™s office until 1978.
