      Day 4: Amman - Madaba - Nebo - Kerak - Petra

Today will take you to the south of Jordan, where you will take your time to explore the Christian traces in the country. The first destination is Madaba, a city known above all for the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land as well as for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics. There you will also visit the Church of St. George. Mount Nebo, a city mentioned in the Bible as the place from which Moses had a view of the Promised Land that he would never enter. Just off the Kingโ€™s Highway, 190 km south of Amman and less than an hour north of Petra, an impressive castle stands as a lonely reminder of the former glory of the Crusaders, dating back to the same turbulent times as Kerak. It crowns a rocky cone that rises above a wild and rugged landscape, dotted with a large number of fruit trees below. Today it is known as Shobak, but for the Crusaders it was Mont Real (Crak de Montreal) or Mons Regalis, the fortress of the Kingโ€™s Mountain. Built in 1115 by King Baldwin I of Jerusalem to guard the road from Damascus to Egypt, it was the first of a series of similar fortresses in the Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem. The tour then continues to Petra, where you can enjoy the evening. The overnight stay is in Petra.

  • Day 5 Day 5: Petra - Wadi Rum
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: Petra - Wadi Rum

The former rock city of Petra is one of the most impressive ruins in the world and one of the new seven wonders of the world. It got its name - the Greek "Petra" means "rock" - because of the red sandstone cliffs into which the cityโ€™s builders carved their magnificent buildings and tomb monuments. At the end of an approximately 1 km long gorge, which is flanked on both sides by 80 m high cliffs - the "Siq" - a breathtaking view of the treasure house, one of numerous rock tombs, opens up through an initially tiny gap. Your tour guide will also show and explain the treasury, the theater, the royal tombs and the city complex around the forum. Afterwards, you will head into the Wadi Rum desert. You will spend the night in an authentic Bedouin tent under the starry desert sky - a magical night!

Lawrence as "vast, echoing and godlike" and by the locals as the "Valley of the Moon". With its seemingly endless expanses and surreal sandstone formations rising from the white and pink sand, it really does look like a fairytale landscape.
