Optional: the islands of Panarea or Salina Optional: ascent of the volcanoes Vulcano and Stromboli Note on volcanic activity: It is currently not possible to climb to the crater rim of Stromboli due to increased activity. Since the fall of 2022, a new path has been completed up to viewpoints at an altitude of 400m, which can be walked with a local mountain guide (for a fee). We also have the opportunity to hike to the "Belvedere" viewpoint at 290m above sea level with a view of the "fire slide" without a local mountain guide, from where a great view of the eruptions is possible from a safe distance. On Vulcano, the ascent to the Gran Cratere cannot always be guaranteed. For some years now, the volcano has repeatedly shown increased activity with the emission of toxic gases. Due to this activity, the ascent is temporarily closed. If the ascent is not possible during your visit, we will take you on a hike to a magnificent viewing summit from where you can admire the volcano and the Aeolian Islands. In addition, the mud bath is currently being renovated and is closed.

Sicily awaits you just a few hours’ flight from Germany. Depending on the flight route and weather conditions, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the Aeolian Islands. Individual flight (not included in the tour price) to Catania in Sicily. After meeting at the airport in Catania, you and your fellow travelers will take a bus transfer to the ferry port of Milazzo (approx. 2 hours). The approximately one-hour ferry crossing to Lipari will get you in the vacation mood. Check into your hotel in the old town for 4 nights. In the evening, you can stop off at a cozy tavern with our tour guide.

Day 2 Lipari

After breakfast, we take the public bus to the west of Lipari in about 20 minutes. On our hike on old mule tracks along the lonely west coast, you will enjoy spectacular views. At the beginning, a narrow path winds its way downhill to the coast through dense maquis with dwarf palms and fragrant broom. On an old erosion terrace, the route then follows wide dirt tracks along the coast to the south. Across the sea lie Salina, Filicudi and Alicudi, and inland, bright colors shimmer in abandoned kaolin pits. We then climb uphill again on small connecting paths. We pass the oldest steam bath in the world, the abandoned thermal baths of San Calogero, and hike through the agricultural settlement of Pianoconte to the Quattrocchi viewpoint. The name gives it away: you would need four eyes to take in what is probably Lipari’s most beautiful view of Vulcano and, on a clear day, as far as Sicily and Mount Etna (walking time approx. 4 hours, medium difficulty). Depending on the weather, you can then relax on the beach in the afternoon.

Day 3 Excursion Vulcano

Today you will experience volcanism up close! After a short crossing by ferry, hydrofoil or fishing boat, you will be greeted by the typical smell of sulphur. It steams and bubbles everywhere. On arrival, we set off on foot - volcanic activity permitting - to climb the picture-book volcano Gran Cratere with its characteristic solfataras. We walk a short distance along the little-used island road to the start of the climb. A wide path winds its way in serpentines over sand and cinders to the crater rim. No tree provides shade, but the views and the play of colors will inspire you and make you forget the effort of the ascent. Your camera should always be ready to hand. Together with your hiking companions, you will circle the crater and then descend back down towards Valle dei Mostri, the "Monster Valley", where, with a little imagination, bizarre lava formations transform into mystical creatures. Instead of exploring the "monster valley", you can also relax on the black sand beach. If it is not possible to climb the Gran Cratere, we will take a hike to a magnificent viewing peak from where you can marvel at the volcano and the islands of the Aeolian Islands. In the late afternoon we return to Lipari (walking time approx. 3 hours / ascent and descent 391m).

Day 4 Day At Leisure, Optional Salina

Day At Leisure, Optional Salina

Lipari can also be explored on your own by hiking, on a scooter or by bus. Or you can enjoy the numerous bathing bays and let your mind wander. Lipari is so diverse that it won’t be difficult for you to find the right thing for you. If you like, you can follow your tour guide’s suggestion and visit the beautiful island of Salina, known from the movie "Il postino". There you can climb the "Monte Porri" (962 m, walking time approx. 5 hours) and marvel at the surprisingly lush mountain vegetation. Or you can explore the island by cab, bus or on foot and get to know the rural, very green Salina with its small, manageable villages (at your own expense). Incidentally, the best capers on the islands are produced on Salina: Perhaps the perfect souvenir for you.

Day 5: Crossing to Alicudi (M

Today we travel by ferry or hydrofoil to the most unknown "seventh sister", located in the far west of the archipelago. It usually only receives day visits from a few tourists. Hardly anyone stays overnight. Reason enough to rent a room for two days on this almost meditative island. You stay in simple local apartments and are fascinated by the atmosphere far away from the hustle and bustle, stress and everything that your apparent "civilization" entails. You immerse yourself in the secluded island life and enjoy your dinner with a local fishing family.

Unfortunately, our accommodation on Alicudi is not available in April. We therefore stay for two nights in a fantastically situated, family-run hotel high above the port of Filicudi (luggage transfer included). We will indulge in culinary delights in the hotel’s own restaurant.

Day 6 Alicudi/Filicudi, Hike

Alicudi/Filicudi, Hike

In the morning, we fortify ourselves with a good breakfast. Afterwards, a hike along the Timone della Montagnola (up to approx. 450 meters) is on the agenda (walking time approx. 5 hours). We will explore the farmhouses scattered on the hillside and the little church of San Bartolo on donkey paths and countless stairways, and from the high plateau below the summit you can enjoy the magnificent view of the other islands, which are lined up like pearls in front of you. If you like, you can hike further up to the summit (675 meters). You can then end the afternoon on the pebble beach.

On Filicudi, we have a large selection of hiking trails (mule tracks and stairways) at our disposal, so we can decide whether we want to go on a longer or shorter hike. However, the Bronze Age village at Capo Graziano will certainly be on the program. The almost unspoilt landscape and varied coastline will inspire you.

Day 7 Alicudi/Filicudi - Lipari - Stromboli

Alicudi/Filicudi - Lipari - Stromboli

We leave the solitude and move our location by ferry via Lipari to the most active volcano in the world: Stromboli. It welcomes you with its typical cloud of smoke at the summit. You will be immersed in the magical atmosphere of the "living mountain", which shows you the power of the earth every few minutes in the form of intoxicating lava fountains.

Your luggage will be taken from the port to the hotel in a typical three-wheeled ape. We walk to the hotel and explore the main town and some of the sights along the way.

Depending on your arrival time, you will have the opportunity today or tomorrow to climb part of this majestic mountain by night under the guidance of a local mountain guide (optional, approx. €30, walking time approx. 3-4 hours). A breathtaking natural spectacle awaits you: the volcano can spew its lava up to 80 meters into the night sky. Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to climb to the crater rim again due to the violent eruptions in summer 2019. But don’t worry, our tour guides know good alternatives and how you can experience this natural spectacle from a safe distance.

Day 8 Stromboli

If you already climbed Stromboli yesterday, you will relax today by strolling around the island or on its enchanting black lava beach. Otherwise, climb today during the day or at night, depending on the weather and activity. (Note: The ascent cannot be guaranteed due to weather conditions and activities).

Day 9 Stromboli - Catania

Stromboli - Catania

Unfortunately, it’s time to say goodbye to the islands today. After breakfast, you can make your way to the harbor on foot and, depending on how much time you have, perhaps buy a souvenir. Our luggage will be waiting for us at the harbor. We return to Milazzo via Lipari on the hydrofoil and then continue by bus to Catania. After arriving and checking into your hotel, you can once again enjoy the enchanting atmosphere of Sicily. You are sure to spend the last evening together with your travel companions in a romantic tavern.
