Itinerary of your trip Lofoten Islands - Fly & Drive

  • Day 1 Arrival To Norway
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Arrival To Norway

Welcome to the Kingdom of Norway โ€“ a country with the most beautiful fjords on Earth!

Once arrived, pick up your rental car at Harstad/Narvik airport (EVE) and drive to Harstad.

The city of Harstad is a perfect gateway to great Lofoten experiences! Situated on Norwayโ€™s biggest Island, Hinnรธya, you find Harstad โ€“ a region with unforgettable nature experiences, local food with excellent chefs, genuine shops, music festivals, an untouched archipelago and much more!

Home to the most romantic place in Norway to see the midnight sun and in the middle of the northern lights belt โ€“ Harstad is ready to seduce you as well! With 24/7 hours of sunlight in summertime and the mysterious green and purple northern lights in wintertime, the natural phenomena in the Harstad area can be experienced all year.

Overnight in Scandic Harstad Hotel or similar

  • Day 2 Vestrerรฅlen Islands
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Vestrerรฅlen Islands

      Buffet breakfast at the hotel

Take the road northwards, towards the archipelago of Vesterรฅlen Islands, located just north of the Lofoten

Islands and the Arctic Circle. Vesterรฅlen reaches out westwards from mainland Norway and into the Atlantic

Ocean. Ranging from tiny islets and rocks to some of the largest islands in Norway, this is a place defined by

contrasts. The landscapes span from calm and peaceful beaches and farmlands to rugged, alpine mountains,

      dramatic fjords and wilderness.

The trip will let you admire beautiful mountains and unique landscapes, especially if you go along the more

authentic west coast. Head to the northern tip of Andรธya Island, where the small town of Andenes is situated.

Overnight in the Thon Andrikken Hotel or similar

  • Day 3 Whale Safari & Whale Museum
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Whale Safari & Whale Museum

      Buffet breakfast at the hotel

In the early afternoon, visit the harbour of Andenes at the Whale Watching Centre. The whales are, quite literally, one of Vesterรฅlenโ€™s biggest draws. Nowhere else along the Norwegian coast is the continental shelf as close to the mainland as in Vesterรฅlen. This is an area rich in nutrition, and the only place where you are almost certain (95%) to see whales on even short trips. And the best part, Vesterรฅlen is a year-round whale destination. Join a guided safari in summer and get a glimpse of the mighty sperm whales, or in winter to admire orcas and humpback whales. At the museum you will learn a lot about these marine mammals, and then you will depart by boat for a 2-to-4-hour safari to see the whales. You can spot them all year round thanks to the favourable climatic conditions of the islands.

Overnight in the Thon Andrikken Hotel or similar

  • Day 4 Andรธya Island And Surroundings
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Andรธya Island And Surroundings

      Buffet breakfast at the hotel

Another day to explore the islands. Take the Norwegian Scenic Route that runs along the outer edge of Andรธya

between Bjรธrnskinn and Andenes, a total distance of 58 km (Road 7698/7702/82).

On the island of Andรธya you can wander along some of Norwayโ€™s most beautiful beaches and look out over the still waters of the ocean with the midnight sun as your sole companion. This is a trip that is designed for enjoyment. The road itself follows a broad shelf of cultivated land where people have put down roots between the wide ocean and the jagged peaks. If youโ€™re lucky you might see seals, whales and eagles from your car window. In the late summer you can try tasting wonderful cloudberries on the moorland that stretches towards the mountains, or earlier in the summer you can visit the bird cliff on the island of Bleiksรธya. The Gulf Stream makes for a hospitable climate and turns the ocean into an abundant source of food for a rich variety of bird and animal life. Here you can also discover some little-known highlights such as the tiny fishing village of Bleik. Between Nordmรฆla and Nรธss you will find the rock formation Bukkekjerka, where nature itself has contrived to build a natural altar and pulpit. Andรธya also provides a fine stretch of road for cyclists and if you want to view the island from the sea, there are lots of opportunities for kayaking.

Overnight in the Vesterรฅlen Kyst Hotel or similar

  • Day 5 Vesterรฅlen To Lofoten
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Vesterรฅlen To Lofoten

      Buffet breakfast at the hotel

Itโ€™s time to leave the archipelago of Vestrรฅlen and move towards the world renowned Lofoten Islands. You will need to take a crossing ferry between Melbu and Fiskebรธl.

Lofoten is particularly well known for its cod fisheries.

Between February and April, huge quantities of cod migrate to Lofoten to spawn. Throughout the centuries this has provided an economic basis for the local population. Stockfish from the Lofoten fisheries was the first export product of economic importance for Norway.

Here you are, in the Lofoten, ready to reach Leknes for an unforgettable night in an authentic rorbu, one of

the red wooden houses of fishermen, typically built on stilts on the sea.

Overnight in a rorbu at the Reine Rorbuer or similar

  • Day 6 The Lofoten Islands
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      The Lofoten Islands

      Buffet breakfast at the hotel

Today you can discover the Lofoten islands. Regardless of the time of year, Lofoten provides a journey amid breathtaking natural surroundings. The landscape is both beautiful and stark. However, there are sheltered, protected stretches that can provide some relief from the raw, exposed areas that show their harshness when the wind is blowing hard. The combination of the untamed ocean and stormy seas, jagged alpine mountains plunging into the water, tiny, shelteredfishing villages and white beaches with crystal clear waters

will never cease to enchant us. The archipelago is made of mountains that plunge into the sea, sandy beaches,

and small fishing villages with their huts on stilts. Moreover, it offers unique colors and light. Continue your

trip to the villages of Queen, Henningsvรฆr, and ร…. Do not miss to pay a visit to the Stockfish Museum of ร….

contemporary visual art to a wider audience. Afternoon departure to Harstad.
