Meals

Sample the many flavours of Seychellois cuisine, from coconut water sipped fresh out of the fruit to green papaya salad. All food is provided by us and prepared by participants. Breakfasts include the usual eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, cereals, and fruit. Lunch and dinner varies based on the tastes of participants at the time. Common meals include curries, stir fries, pastas, pies, and salas. Many participants also buy their own snacks, like banana chips and dried salted fish.

Accommodation

Accommodation is in shared (mixed sex) dorm rooms (up to 10 people). The tap water is safe for drinking on the expedition base and there is cold running water available. Bathroom facilities are shared but split-sex, and participants also share base duties, including cleaning and other chores. Refridgeration is available for communal food only.

Insurance

Please ensure you choose a policy that covers the full range of activities, dive depths etc. Many policies only cover up to or less than 30 meters. It is also very important to note your insurance covers helicopter evacuation.

      Day 1: Meet The Team In Beau Vallon, Seychelles And Travel Together To Cap Ternay National Park

      GVI team will meet you in Beau Vallon on your program start date. From here you will travel together with the staff team and fellow volunteers to our program base in Cap Ternay. Spend the afternoon getting familiar with base and settling in! 

  • Day 2 Day 2-5: Padi Advanced Open Water Dive Training Commences

      Day 2-5: Padi Advanced Open Water Dive Training Commences

      Your first week will mostly be spent on training and settling in. You will start your PADI Advanced Open Water training and will receive an introduction into marine conservation and the volunteer contribution you will have over the next few weeks. 



  • Day 3 Day 6-7: Spend The Weekend Island Hopping On Nearby Pristine Islands

      Weekends are a time for you and fellow volunteers to explore the neighbouring islands! 

      From the capital of Victoria, you can catch a ferry to many of the other inner islands like Praslin, La Digue, Silhouette, Felicity, and Sister. Praslin is home to the Vallee de Mai National Park, a verdant palm forest thought by early explorers to be the original โ€˜Garden of Edenโ€™ and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Praslin, and nearby Curieuse, are some of the only Seychellois islands home to the famous Coco de Mer palm whose seed is the largest known on earth. The island is home to the endangered Seychelles Black Parrot as well as many other endemic plants and animals. 

      La Digue is the picture perfect tropical island, with several quaint guest houses and arguably the most beautiful beach in the world, Anse Source dโ€™Argent.

  • Day 4 Day 8-12: Start Diving Up To 2 Times A Day & Learn How To Collect Valuable Data

      Day 8-12: Start Diving Up To 2 Times A Day & Learn How To Collect Valuable Data

      Your second week is more hands on! You will start diving/snorkelling up to twice a day - remember that this is all faciliated by qualified experienced staff. 

      You will learn how to collect valuable data which is used for marine conservation! Look at different underwater inverts like sea cucmbers as well as study coral, fish and mega fauna species. Have a real impact on the conservation of pristing marine life while having the time of your life diving in warm water seeing some incredible sites like whale sharks, seals, sharks, dolphins and turtles! 

  • Day 5 Day 13-14: Go On A Hike To Cap Matooka, Visit Victoria City, Do Some Recreational Diving. The Possibilities Are Endless!

      Seychelles has so much to offer, spend two days with your fellow volunteer seeing some of the most amazing local sites! 

  • Day 6 Day 15-19: Daily Dives Continue & Join A Beach Clean

      This week, project work continues! You may even have the opportunity to take part in a beach clean as well as community environmental education classes.



  • Day 7 Day 20-21: Take Part In Local Water Sports Or Spend The Day In Beau Vallon Bay

      Day 20-21: Take Part In Local Water Sports Or Spend The Day In Beau Vallon Bay

      The weekend is free for your to explore! Other than diving there are many other water sports in the Seychelles, like surfing, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, and of course simply swimming in the ocean or relaxing on the beach. The most popular tourist spot on the main island of the Seychelles, Beau Vallon offers a massive stretch of beach lined with shops and restaurants.



  • Day 8 Day 22-27: Diving In The Most Exquisite Dive Sites & Continue With Marine Conservation Efforts

      This is your final week! Project work will continue as you begin with debriefing before heading back home!
