Suceava is the largest city in the region of Bucovina, and for nearly 200 years it served as the capital of the Principality of Moldavia.

The most significant and best-preserved place is Suceava Citadel, the former residence of Stephen the Great, the Prince of the country. Bucovina Village Museum is located near the Citadel, and inside you will have the chance to see a rare collection of old traditional houses from the area.

In the evening you will reach Gura Humorului. If the time allows, you can visit Humor Monastery on your way to your hotel.

Day 3: Gura Humorului - Voronet Monastery - Moldovita Monastery - Sucevita Monastery - Gura Humorului

Voronet Monastery was built in 1488 in record time: three months, three weeks and three days, today being part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The exterior murals have preserved their hues despite centuries of inclement weather, but the ingredients used in preparing the paints are still a mystery. The scenes in the murals depict, like a movie, the history of Christianity, presented in an original manner, very much influenced by folk beliefs, by the Eastern culture, but also by the Orthodox thought.

Moldovita Monastery, included in the UNESCO heritage in 1993, was built between 1532 and 1537. For hundreds of years, the murals were the only way uneducated country dwellers could learn about the teachings of the Bible. The frescoes are an immense color illustration of Biblical scenes, adapted to the history of the place and to the important moments in the life of the community.

Sucevita Monastery is the newest of the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina, and it was included in the UNESCO Heritage in 1993. It was built in a Moldavian style, with Gothic and Byzantine influences. The murals are dominated by a shade of green, obtained through an ancient technique from natural pigments.

Marginea Black Pottery - the Dacian pottery tradition is carried on by a handful of artisans who manufacture black ceramic, according to an atypical process. The pottery made here is famous worldwide, shaped by hand by the craftsmen, fired and then polished, also by hand. The black color of the vessels is due to the firing process. This one is carried out according to an ancient technique, transmitted from generation to generation, the secrets of which have never left Marginea.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Gura Humorului โ€“ Neamt Citadel โ€“ Popa Museum โ€“ Agapia Monastery โ€“ Piatra Neamt

Day 4: Gura Humorului โ€“ Neamt Citadel โ€“ Popa Museum โ€“ Agapia Monastery โ€“ Piatra Neamt

Neamt Citadel is one of the most important medieval monuments in our country. It represents the most glorious time of the eastern region of Romania, called Moldova. The fortress was part of some crucial battles and survived important sieges like the Ottoman and Polish attacks.

Nicolae Popa Museum โ€“ host to an impressive collection of historical objects but also an exhibition of naive art. Nicolae Popa passes on to the next generation the ancestral heritage through unique ways. He promotes the Romanian folklore and has dedicated his life to defend it. Here you can be witness to his creation and try on the ritual masks and traditional costumes.

Agapia Monastery, home to more than 350 nuns, became more famous after the church was painted on the inside by the young and yet, genius, Nicolae Grigorescu painter. Nicolae Grigorescu is one of the most renowned Romanian painters. The uniqueness of his paintings derives from the fact that he represented the Orthodox Saints in a very personal manner.

In the evening you will reach Piatra Neamt where you will also spend the night.

      Overnight in Piatra Neamt

  • Day 5 Day 5: Piatra Neamt โ€“ Iasi

The restaurant serves Romanian traditional food and today is a good option to try some of the most iconic Romanian dishes.

On the way to Iasi lays Miclauseni Castle, this neo-gothic construction from the 1700s. With its own botanical garden and monastery, the place is totally secluded from the rush of the modern world.
