      Flight to Madeira. We will be picked up at the airport and driven to the hotel. The evening is free.

      Day 2: The Contrasting Eastern Cape

      After breakfast, we meet the ASI hiking guide at the hotel reception at 8.30 am to get to know each other. Please show up in full hiking equipment. Afterwards, a slightly easier hike awaits us, during which we discover the contrasting landscape of the Eastern Cape. We start in Baia d’Abra and go through bizarre stone landscapes with sparse vegetation, with great views of the sea and the rocks.

      Day 3: On The Levada Do Furado To Portela Pass

      Madeira is the island of a thousand levadas. Today we hike a classic among these tours: the Trout Levada! Shortly after the start of the tour we find ourselves in the middle of a pristine landscape with overwhelming vegetation and hike through rocky breakthroughs and short tunnels. Finally, we reach the Portela Pass, where we stop for a typical meal.

      Day 4: Madeira’S Highest Mountain

      At Pico Arieiro the hike begins over numerous stairs and through tunnels along the main ridge of the island to Pico Ruivo, with 1,862 m the highest mountain in Madeira. On the left, one constantly looks deep down into the wild Curral das Freiras valley, while on the right, the view opens up to the valley of Ribeira Seca. Steep walls with lush vegetation make this spectacular hike one of the most beautiful of the entire hiking week.

      Day 5: Rabaçal And Its 25 Sources

      From the Paul da Serra plateau we descend a path directly into the laurel forest. From here we continue to the spectacular Risco waterfall and the 25 springs: a magical place. We continue hiking through the island’s primeval vegetation and reach one of the many levada tunnels (flashlight required!). It is not uncommon to find completely different weather on the other side. Afterwards we will go by bus for lunch in a typical restaurant of the country.

  • Day 6 Day 6: The Valley Of The Nuns

      Day 6: The Valley Of The Nuns

      Drive to the heart of the island to Boca da Corrida (1,220 m). From there, the wonderfully laid out path leads in overwhelming mountain scenery to the foot of Pico Grande (1,300 m). Under chestnut trees we hike on a serpentine path down to the Valley of the Nuns, where we stop for chestnut specialties. Unforgettable stop at Senhor Gabriel.
