  • Day 2 Day 2: Historic Stockholm
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Historic Stockholm

After you have strengthened yourself at the hotelโ€™s breakfast buffet, the exploration of Stockholm starts on the way to the popular Old Town, Gamla Stan. Stockholm is surrounded and crisscrossed by a lot of water and thus there are also numerous small bridges. As you explore the city, buildings steeped in history await you, such as the Stadtshus, which is a magnificent sight on the Kungsholmen peninsula. The imposing Parliament building stands at the tip of the small Helgeandsholmen peninsula. As you walk through the narrow streets of Gamla Stan, your guide will take you past the Royal Castle, the German Church (Tyska Kyrkan) and through the narrowest alley in Stockholm. In the heart of Gamla Stan you will also find the Nobel Prize Museum (outside visit), on whose square a beautiful Christmas market is held every winter. Take a good look around, the cityโ€™s buildings date from different eras and reflect Stockholmโ€™s history. If youโ€™re in the mood for a snack, why not try a smรถrgasbrรถd, a Swedish buttered bread specialty. In Sweden, the spice cardamom enjoys a high popularity. Be sure to try one of the popular cinnamon buns (kanelbullen) with cardamom! In the afternoon, visit another landmark of the countryโ€™s capital: the Vasa Museum. The Vasa is the worldโ€™s best-preserved 17th century ship and sank off the coast of Stockholm in 1628. It was originally intended to be the most heavily armed ship in the Swedish fleet, but it sank on its maiden voyage, and was never used in combat. In the museum you will learn all about the history of the ship, its importance for Stockholm and be taken on a journey to the 17th century. (F)

  • Day 3 Day 3: Drottningholm Castle (Unesco World Heritage Site)
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Drottningholm Castle (Unesco World Heritage Site)

After yesterdayโ€™s sightseeing in the southern part of Stockholm, today you will head towards the interior of the country. You will visit Drottningholm Castle, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. Since 1981, the castle has been the residence of the Royal Family of Sweden, which resides in the south wing. The impressive 17th-century building is picturesquely situated on the shores of Lake Mรคlaren, and as you arrive by steamboat S/S Drottningholm, you can enjoy the fantastic view from the water. Once ashore, you will stroll through the royal, lovingly tended palace gardens and be enchanted by the flair of the sovereign park. Youโ€™ll also pass the Chinese Pavilion, which was a birthday gift to Queen Lovisa Ulrika from King Adolf Frederik in 1753. Let your imagination run wild as you view the rococo-style Chinese ornaments. This afternoon is yours to do as you please. What do you feel like doing? Maybe relax a bit in the beautiful cafes of Gamla Stan? To complete the Swedish experience, you can visit the Skansen open-air museum, where you can also see the animals that live in Sweden, such as the moose or the reindeer. You will also learn about the indigenous people of Sweden and their culture: the Sami. (F)

  • Day 4 Day 4: Archipelago
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 4: Archipelago

During a visit to Stockholm, the beautiful archipelago gardens canโ€™t be missed, of course! After the last days in the city, today you will go to the nature: on the ferry you will slowly leave the hustle and bustle of the city behind and go to the island of Grinda. This reflects Swedenโ€™s nature very well: tall fir trees, birch trees, ground covered with heather and the red rock can be found everywhere in Sweden. The small bays and the view of the Baltic Sea offer a unique sight and are very good for a souvenir photo or two. Along Grinda Stigen you will go for a hike and you can look for the picturesque red Swedish houses in the pine forests and along the coast (easy, approx. 8 km, walking time: approx. 3 hours, +/-80 meters altitude difference). Already the director of the Nobel Prize Foundation was so inspired by the atmosphere of the island that he had his summer residence built here. In order to curb the wild growth on the island, sheep graze everywhere in the open areas. For the water enthusiasts there is also the opportunity to refresh themselves in the cool water on one of the beaches. (F)

  • Day 5 Day 5: Hej Dรฅ Stockholm!
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Depending on the flight time, you will have the opportunity to discover the beautiful Stockholm further on your own. The shopping street Drottninggatan is perfect for a stroll to take home some last souvenirs. Let your tour guide also inspire you in advance to make the most of your free time in Swedenโ€™s capital.
