Your suitcase? Packed! Your anticipation? Huge! Standing at the airport with your sunglasses on your nose, you can already feel the fresh, salty air of the Atlantic. One minute you’re thinking about your upcoming adventures, the next you’re taking the wheel of your rental car in Lisbon.
Arriving in Castelo Branco, you have the feeling that you have landed right in the original heart of Portugal: Whitewashed house facades amidst green hills really get you in the mood for the days ahead. What’s missing now? A cool drink in your hand - saúde!
  • Day 2 Day 2: Between Highs And Lows: From The Highest Peak To The Douro Valley!

Day 2: Between Highs And Lows: From The Highest Peak To The Douro Valley!

Rise and shine, into adventure! Head north in your rental car, where breathtaking mountain panoramas and hidden natural gems await you. Your first destination: the Serra da Estrela National Park, where you will find the Torre, the highest peak in mainland Portugal. Take in the beautiful mountain landscape on a relaxing hike before continuing towards Vila Nova de Foz Côa. Will you opt for a walk through the vineyards or would you rather discover the cave paintings in the Museu do Côa? Whatever your preference, you’re guaranteed to have a good time here!
Then it’s time for the last stretch of your road trip today, where the bright green Douro Valley awaits you. Now you’re in the heart of the home of Portuguese port wine! Bright green vineyards, through which the eponymous Douro River meanders, picturesque villages and wineries welcome you. Could the day end any better?

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 3: Heavenly Heights: Over Hundreds Of Steps To A Dream View!

Before you leave the Douro Valley today, stop off at the Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. Over 600 steps lead up to the pilgrimage church - the view from below alone is worth a detour. Your road trip then continues with a generous detour to the north. Next stop is the first capital of Portugal, Guimarães. The city is also known as the ’cradle of Portugal’ and boasts medieval castles, palaces and narrow stone streets. Further on in Braga, you have déjà vu all over again: you climb up several steps until you reach the top of Bom Jesus de Monte and enjoy the view of the city. Do you prefer the rugged wilderness of Portugal? Then the Peneda-Gerês National Park awaits you on the Spanish border. You could get lost forever on the many hiking trails between lush greenery and clear mountain lakes, but the road is calling you.
Porto is calling! Your anticipation grows with every kilometer you approach the enchanting coastal city. After checking into your hotel, you are immediately drawn to the city center. Stroll along the harbor promenade or enjoy the view of the Douro on a ride on the famous Linha 1 streetcar.

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Porto: Colorful Alleys, Magical Bookshops &Amp; Good Port Wine

The sun is shining over Porto and brings a smile to your face as you make your way into the heart of the old town. Colorful street art in winding alleyways leads you to a building covered in blue tiles: the Chapel of Souls. Built in the early 18th century, the chapel is one of the most beautiful in the city and will find a place in your photo album as a snapshot. The next stop is for Harry Potter fans: head to the Livraria Lello bookshop, which served as inspiration for J.K. Rowling’s magical worlds! See for yourself and be enchanted by the spiral staircases and meter-high bookshelves. Just around the corner is the city’s landmark, the Clérigos Church, which you will pass on your way to Porto’s historic cathedral. What should you definitely not miss out on during your visit to Porto in the evening? Exactly: port wine! All wineries offer guided tours followed by a tasting (optional, payable on site). Enjoy the taste!

Day 5: Road Trip Full Of Highlights: From Little Venice To Lousã

In the morning, you take to your feet, because a few highlights await you on today’s road trip. First stop: Aveiro, or Little Venice! The sight of the colorful gondolas on the canals immediately transports you to the Italian lagoon city. How about a tour on one of the traditional moliceiros (optional, payable locally)? Quickly snap the colorful houses on the Costa Nova, grab a few sweet "Ovos Moles de Averio" to go and off you go! In the fairytale forest of Serra do Buçaco, you’ll be enchanted by the mystical atmosphere before heading to the student city of Coimbra. Coimbra is young, casual, laid-back and somehow a little enchanted. Take a stroll through the park at Praça da República, find a shady spot and enjoy a galão!
When you arrive in Lousã, you finally reach your destination for today and also your final highlight: your accommodation is like a small palace and guarantees you wonderful dreams!

    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Surfer’S Paradise: On The Hunt For The Highest Waves In The World

First stop on your road trip route today: Nazaré! The small fishing village looks sleepy at first glance, but if you’re looking for superlatives here, you’ll find them - on the beach! A huge underwater canyon - the largest in Europe - creates gigantic waves at Praia do Norte, attracting surfers from all over the world. There’s a good chance they’re still looking for the perfect wave today, so take the cable car to the Miradouro do Suberco viewpoint to watch the impressive spectacle from above (optional, payable locally). Fun fact: The highest wave of all time was surfed in Nazaré! You could watch for hours, but slowly you feel the pull of the street again.
Want to stand on a surfboard yourself? Perfect! Because Peniche is also a paradise for surfers and so you set off in search of a surfing course as soon as you arrive to plunge into the cool water (optional, payable locally). Whether you’re an advanced surfer or just starting out, water sports are great fun!

No matter what you choose, your path in Peniche will almost inevitably lead you to the beach. Want to throw yourself into the waves on your surfboard again? Then Praia dos Supertubos is the right place for you. The name gives it away: surfing is particularly effortless on the so-called supertubes that hit the beach here. Want to treat your tired bones to some relaxation? Then head to Praia Baleal or Praia da Consolação. Stretch out on the golden sand and leave the surfing to the pros. With such an entertainment program in front of you, there’s only one thing missing for perfect beach bliss: a cool drink in your hand!
