You leave Edinburgh in the direction of Perth and after a short drive you cross the impressive Forth Road Bridge. The city of Perth was the capital of Scotland until 1452. You will visit the stunning Scone Palace, where the Scottish kings of that time were crowned. In the palace you will see a replica of the โ€™Stone of Sconeโ€™, the famous coronation stone on which the kings sat during their coronation. The palace also has a Gothic style chapel and extensive grounds with beautifully landscaped garden beds and exotic conifers. Continue on to the Cairngorms National Park, the youngest national park in the British Isles. You will drive via the picturesque village of Braemar, an important annual gathering place for the royal family for the โ€™Highland Gamesโ€™ held in September. After a short drive through the breathtaking hills of the Grampian Mountains you will reach the Ballindalloch region. Here visit the local whisky distillery. Today you leave Aviemore and drive first across the impressive Moray Firth estuary. You will drive through Dornoch and then visit Dunrobin Castle, family seat of the Duke of Sutherland. With white plaster and imposing turrets, it looks like a fairy tale castle. The castle grounds also include a pretty French-style garden. Along the breathtaking east coast with miles of white deserted sandy beaches you travel via Latheron, Wick and John Oโ€™Groats, the northernmost point of the British main island, until you reach the northernmost castle in Great Britain, Castle of Mey, outside Thurso. This pretty castle with a dreamlike location directly on the sea changed into royal ownership in 1952, when Queen Elizabeth, the widow of the previously deceased King George VI, bought the castle. She had the castle thoroughly renovated and then used it as a vacation domicile in August every year until her death in 2002. During a tour of the castle, you will learn more about the life story of the beloved "Queen Mum" and then drive to our overnight destination in Thurso. Before that there is a stop at the beautiful Dunnet Beach.

Todayโ€™s program first includes a drive along the spectacular north coast of Scotland. There is a strange contrast in the region between the strangely shaped mountains, which are some of the oldest stone formations in Europe, and the breathtaking sandy beaches with huge sandy bays and azure, crystal clear water. All along the coast all kinds of wildlife can be found in the wild - seabirds, puffins, guillemots and if you are lucky you may even spot a family of seals. South of the small village of Lairg you will stop briefly at the spectacular Shin Waterfall. Then head south via Drumnadrochit to Scotlandโ€™s most famous loch, Loch Ness. For centuries there have been regular sightings of โ€™Nessieโ€™, a 20m long lake monster which, according to legend, lives deep under the water. You will visit the 13th century ruins of Urquhart Castle. Beautifully situated on the lakeshore, the castle now serves as an ideal vantage point over Loch Ness. Continue through the wild and romantic highlands, a breathtaking region. You will cross the imposing Skye Bridge at Kyle of Lochalsh and thus reach the fairytale Isle of Skye, the largest island of the Inner Hebrides.

The castle is the ancestral home of the chief of the Campbell clan, the Duke of Argyll and it is nowadays the home of the 13th Dukes of Argyll. Among other things, the castle has pieces of furniture from the 18th century and old paintings by the French painters Girard and Guinard, as well as various weapons.

You will continue your journey through beautiful moorland until you reach the "Bonny Banks" of Loch Lomond, the largest inland lake in Great Britain. The loch, known as the "Queen of the Scottish Lakes", is located in the middle of Scotlandโ€™s first and largest national park.
