  • Day 1 Day 1: From Dublin To Bunclody

      Day 1: From Dublin To Bunclody

      On the first day you will travel by bus from Dublin to Bunclody (not included), where your first B&B is located. We will provide you with all the information you need to get from your point of entry into Ireland to your first B&B in Bunclody.

  • Day 2 Day 2: From Clonegal To Shillelagh

      Day 2: From Clonegal To Shillelagh

      On the second day, your first day of walking on the Wicklow Way, the trail takes you along some country roads through the forest of Newry, over Moilishe and Stookeen Hill and down into the townland of Mungaculin.

      Your accommodation for the night is in the 17th century village of Shillelagh, famous for the traditional Irish stick cut from the hawthorn tree, "The Shillelagh".

  • Day 3 Day 3: From Shillelagh To Tinahely

      Day 3: From Shillelagh To Tinahely

      The drive from Shillelagh takes you back to quiet country roads. You will pass St. Finianโ€™s Church; St. Finian was a holy man from County Westmeath who is associated with the Christianization of the area.

      Tinahely is your destination for today. This small village on the banks of the River Derry was destroyed during the 1798 Rebellion, but was subsequently rebuilt and enjoyed a new lease of life with the construction of the railroad in 1865.

      Tinahely is now a very beautiful village and very well known as a weekend walking destination.

      Day 4: From Tinahely To Moyne

      Your journey to Moyne will take you along quiet forest trails, open hillsides and quiet country roads. Moyne was the birthplace of Edward C. Godwin, who founded the New York Nation magazine in 1865.

      This section of the Wicklow Way offers fantastic views of the area you passed through and of the adjacent counties of Carlow and Wexford. It also passes through an old Ring Fort or Fairy Fort.

  • Day 6 Day 6: From Glenmalure To Glendalough

      Day 6: From Glenmalure To Glendalough

      Todayโ€™s hiking trail will take you steadily up from the Glenmalure Valley. During the climb, the beauty of the surrounding landscape and the famous Glenmalure waterfall will take your breath away.

      The trail then takes you over the side of Mullacor Mountain and into the valley of Glendalough or "Gleann Dรก Loch", the valley of the two lochs. Glendalough is famous for its 6th century monastic settlement, which you can visit during your walk. It is also one of the most important monasteries in the world, which you can visit during your walk. Glendalough is also one of the most visited places in Ireland and its beauty is simply fascinating!

      Today you will spend the night in Glendalough or Laragh.

      Day 7: From Glendalough To Roundwood

      Todayโ€™s hike is short, but still rewarding. You will see some fantastic scenery and end up in the highest village in Ireland, Roundwood, at 260 meters above sea level.

      Youโ€™ll also pass very close to our Footfalls Walking Holidays office! We are based just outside the village of Laragh.

      We offer the option of adding the challenging Scarr Mountain to your walk. Alternatively, you can take an easier hike around one of Roundwood Reservoirs, which supplies water to part of Dublin City. Tonight you will spend the night in Roundwood.

  • Day 8 Day 8: From Roundwood To Enniskerry

      Day 8: From Roundwood To Enniskerry

      This is a classic walk overlooking Lough Dan and Lough Tay. Many famous movies were filmed in this area including Braveheart, King Arthur, Dancing at Lughnasa and many more.

      This is also the original home of the Guinness family, whose residence can still be seen in the upper part of the valley.

      You will cross Djouce Mountain and drive past the Powerscourt Estate, where you will have a fantastic view of Powerscourt Waterfall, Irelandโ€™s longest waterfall. Your penultimate night is spent in one of Wicklowโ€™s most charming villages, Enniskerry.

      Day 9: From Enniskerry To Marlay Park

      You have walked the Wicklow Way almost completely, only 17 km more, then you have done Irelandโ€™s oldest marked hiking trail!

      The last section of the Wicklow Way will take you over Prince Williamโ€™s Seat, from where you will have a breathtaking view of much of Dublin City, the Irish Sea and the last view back into the Wicklow Hills. Your journey ends on a beautiful path that takes you to Marlay Park.
