Day 3: Garni, Geghard, Sevan, Sevanavank
Stop At: Garni Temple, Geghard Monastery Road H3, Garni Armenia
The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. An Ionic pagan temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia. According to some scholars it was not a temple but a tomb and thus survived the universal destruction of pagan structures. It collapsed in a 1679 earthquake. Renewed interest in the 19th century led to excavations at the site in early and mid-20th century, and its eventual reconstruction between 1969 and 1975, using the anastylosis method. It is one of the main tourist attractions in Armenia and the central shrine of Armenian neopaganism.

While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. The monastery had thus been originally named Ayrivank, meaning "the Monastery of the Cave". The name commonly used for the monastery today, Geghard, or more fully Geghardavank meaning "the Monastery of the Spear", originates from the spear which had wounded Jesus at the Crucifixion, allegedly brought to Armenia by Apostle Jude, called here Thaddeus, and stored amongst many other relics. Now it is displayed in the Echmiadzin treasury.

Lake Sevan is located in the north-eastern part of the Armenian Highland, in Gegharkunik Region. Sevan is considered to be one of the three ancient and biggest lakes (Vana and Urmia) of the Armenian Kingdom. It was called the โblue eyesโ of Armenia and is surrounded by Geghama, Vardenis, Pambak, Sevan and Areguni mountain chains. The blue beauty of Armenia situates at an altitude of 1900m above sea level.The Lake consists of two unequal parts called Big and Small.

Stop At: Monastery Sevanavank, next the Holy Mother of God Church, Sevan Armenia
Sevanavank is a monastic complex located on a peninsula at the northwestern shore of Lake Sevan in the Gegharkunik Province of Armenia, not far from the town of Sevan. Initially the monastery was built at the southern shore of a small island. After the artificial draining of Lake Sevan, which started in the era of Joseph Stalin, the water level fell about 20 metres, and the island transformed into a peninsula. At the southern shore of this newly created peninsula, a guesthouse of the Armenian Writers' Union was built.

Vartanats Square, St Astvacacin Church and St Amenaprkich Church โThe Holy Saviourโ, Sev Berd (Black Fortress), Aslamazyan Sister`s Gallery, Dzitoghtsyan House Museum, Gyumri Brewery, Central Park after Maxim Gorki A city of crafts and art, magic birthplace of poets and artists, home for the best Armenian movies. A city of hearty and generous hospitality. A city having colors for each day. Dzitoghtsyan House Museum represents the colorful lifestyle and everyday life of Gyumri, as well as urban architecture. There are two prominent churches located in Vardanants Square: Saint Astvacanin Church and Saint Amenaprkich Church (Holy Saviour) There is a cross-stone in the yard of Saint Astvacacin Church which is the copy of New Jugha cross-stone. Saint Amenaprkich Church is cosidered to be a duplicate of the architectural structure of Ani Catoghike Cathedral. The statue of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin is located in Gorky Park. For beer lovers, we can organize a beer tour to the Gyumri Brewery and beer tasting. The brewery has been producing beer since 1898 and is still producing unique beer in the region. For the Gyumri residents, the Black Fortress or Black Ghoul has a great architectural value. It has also military and defence significance. The sisters Aslamazyan are two feminist painters whose paintings reflect the whole world from Vietnam to Africa.

Marmashen Monastery is situated in virgin nature near Akhuryan gorge, inside the monastery and around the area you get away from the reality and enjoy the divine beauty. We will quench our thirst with water from Heghnar fountain.
