  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival At Diass Airport โ€“ Hotel Dakar

      Day 1: Arrival At Diass Airport โ€“ Hotel Dakar

      Arrival at the International Airport Blaise Diagne of Diass. After formalities, transfer to our hotel

      in Dakar. Overnight (Bed & Breakfast).

  • Day 2 Day 2: Transfer Dakar - Saint Louis - Embarkation

      Day 2: Transfer Dakar - Saint Louis - Embarkation

      Breakfast and transfer to St Louis. The lunch is intended in the Hotel La Residence (or similar)

      near 01 hour PM. Boarding and installation in the boat at 3:00 pm.

      Start a city tour by horse carriage to discover Saint-Louis. You will feel a specific atmosphere,

      strange and familiar at the same time, admire the smoothness of the balconies fixed to the

      beautiful colonial houses and follow the range of yellow ochre houses along the streets according

      to the position of the sun. The Northern district of the island is separated from the Southern

      district by the Governance (Governorโ€™s house) and the Place Faidherbe (Faidherbe square). You

      will also find on the island historical buildings such as the town hall and the law courts (1st trial

      in 1875), the beautiful yellow ochre hospital (1827), the girls college Ameth Fall holding since

      1927 an old hospital dated 1840, the famous Faidherbe bridge (500 m length) built in 1897, all

      examples of the monuments decorating St-Louis streets. Visit the fishermen village, fascinating

      with their enormous dugouts crossing the bar to go fishing in the sea. Then you will move

      towards the Muslim cemetery in the district of Guet Ndar, you will see the graves covered with

      fishing nets. You will also cross the market of Ndar located in the โ€˜Langue de Barbarieโ€™. Dinner

      and night on board.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Cruise St Louis โ€“ Diama โ€“ Tiguet (Djoudj)

      Day 3: Cruise St Louis โ€“ Diama โ€“ Tiguet (Djoudj)

      You will cross the waters of the Senegal River to the Diama dam. This is the limit of the salted

      waters which prevents it from going up. Lunch on board before moving upwards the river while

      cruising the Senegal River heading to Djoudj.

      Stop at the entrance of the GOROM one of the River arm which allows access to the bird nature

      reserve of Djoudj. You will join the embarking area with a motorized canoe. The reserve was

      created in 1971 and has been classified as World Inheritance by UNESCO, it is the third

      ornithological park of the world. It extends on 12 000 hectares in the Senegal River Delta. It

      plays an irresistible attraction on Europeโ€™s avifauna. From November to March, three million of

      birds join the reserve to spend winter there. The park also holds approximately twenty species of 

      mammals. Enjoy an excursion in a slow-moving motorized canoe, entering the heart of the

      Djoudj and letting you enjoy a fantastic bird ballet: flamingos taking off in tightened rows,

      pelicans flying away, cormorants swooping into the river. This spectacle is simply wonderful.

      Back to the boat. Dinner and night on board in the larger arm of the river.

      While sailing, you will move up to the Senegal River having Senegal and Mauritania at its edges.

      While Senegalese banks are used as rice fields, they are less cultivated on the Mauritanian side.

      You will see some warthogs, then pass in front of Rosso, a town that the separates Senegal from

      Mauritania and where motorized canoe and a ferry cross people, animals and vehicles. Arrivals

      and departures of these barges provide intensive activity with various colors and particularly

      animated.

      You will reach Richard Toll, the gardens of Richard, named as such for being the site where

      cultural methods were tried in 1822 during colonial times. Visit the city in a barouche and the

      sugarcane factory, (ten thousand hectares of sugarcane), the main source of income of the area.

      Discover the "madness of Baron Roger", a French-style castle now closed, surrounded with mud

      brick constructions, the traditional architecture of the area. Dinner and night on board.

      Sailing to the mangrove, along โ€˜Goumelโ€™ village, located in a loop of the Senegal River. โ€˜Thiep

      bou dieuneโ€™ (rice with fish) will be served as traditional lunch in the middle of mango and palm

      trees edging the River. At midday, arrival at Dagana, the โ€˜Wolofโ€™ village called โ€œcapital of Waloโ€.

      Visit this old trading post of the colonial period which still preserves the vestiges of the old

      fortress and of some trading stores. Visit the market of Dagana where the Banny or the Ponty are

      often seen charging gum or dropping off soldiers. Return to the boat by sunset. Dinner and night

      on board.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Cruise Goumel-Fanayeโ€“ Thiangaye

      Day 6: Cruise Goumel-Fanayeโ€“ Thiangaye

      In the morning, visit of the ranching and nomadic village of Goumel. The architecture of its

      houses consists of original huts of straw. Lunch during the navigation. Arrival to the tributary of

      the river Senegal Thiangaye. In the evening we go out in the barge and after approximately thirty

      minutes of navigation, arrive in the village of Fanaye. Visit this village of houses of adobe and

      brick. Return to the ship, dinner in the land on the banks of the river and the night on board. 

  • Day 7 Day 7: Cruise Thiangaye โ€“ Podor

      Day 7: Cruise Thiangaye โ€“ Podor

      Navigation, lunch on board. Arrival at about 2 pm at Podor, former trading post during the

      French colonization. Nowadays, the trading activity does not exist anymore on the River and its

      quays out of stone await impatiently our arrival. The firms which border the quays with their

      original balcony and the warehouses which used to contain Arabic Gum, firewood, ivory, and

      slaves are today the vestiges of a recent past. You will visit its fort built by Faidherbe and which

      is under rehabilitation. You will be taken right back to this history. Late in the afternoon, we shall

      visit the former trading post of the Cour du Fleuve and the Inn of Tekrour, then we shall go to the

      Fort of Podor. Finally, those who want it can take a walk to the market and stroll in the peaceful

      alleys, or sit on the stairs of one of these former houses to look at the sunset on the Mauritanian

      banks. Dinner and night on board.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Transfer Podor โ€“ St Louis - Dakar

      After the breakfast on board, transfer to Saint Louis where weโ€™ll lunch before taking our car to

      go to Dakar. Installation in our hotel, dinner, and overnight.

      Dakar - Goree - Dakar

      Breakfast. Beginning of a city tour of Dakar, the Senegalese capital. Weโ€™ll make a visit that weโ€™ll permit us to discover the colonialโ€™s remains of what was the capital of French Africa: the Presidential palace, the Independence Place, the chamber of commerceโ€ฆ.. Transfer to the harbour where we will board a ferry to visit the island of Gorรฉe (20 minutes away from Dakar). Gorรฉe is an island of 300m wide and 900m long which long ago was the stake in numerous confrontations between the Portuguese, English, Dutch and French. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children were deported from Gorรฉe. The ยซ slavesโ€™ house ยป with its door opened on the ocean is a terrible reminder of the cruelty of men towards men. Come back to our hotel in Dakar, overnight.
