Day 1 Day 1: Chisinau

Day 1: Chisinau

Tour of Chisinau will show both the historic and the modern faces of Chisinau. There are many administrative buildings like the Presidency, the Parliament and the City Administration on Stephen the Great Boulevard. Visit different cultural centers such as the National Theatre M. Eminescu, the Organ Hall and Opera and Ballet Theatre. In the historical zone there are more than 700 houses from the 19th century, more than 18 old churches and the Cathedral of the Nativity. The view of the Arch of Triumph is included. Evening at leisure. - Excursion to Orhei Vechi situated in a picturesque setting (Applied to become the UNESCO World Heritage). You will have the opportunity to visit the most interesting archaeological site housing the ruins of two cities (14th -16th century). Tartars settled here on their expansion to Western Europe. Continue with a visit to the well-maintained Orthodox cave monastery called St. Maria Dormata which was expanded and modified inside the cliffs by monks over the centuries. Christian churches provide magnificent scenery through the windows of the monastery, which still functions today.

Excursion to wine cellars Cricova, which is one of the largest wine cellar in Moldova. It boasts a mere 200 km of labyrinthine roadways and tunnels, which have existed under Cricova since the 15th century, when limestone was dug out to help build the city of Chisinau. They were converted into an underground wine emporium in the 1950s. Half of the roadways are used for wine storage. The wines they store name the roads. This "wine city" has its warehouses, tasting rooms and other facilities underground. It goes down to over 340 feet below ground and holds 1.25 million bottles of rare wine. The oldest wine dates back to 1902. The temperature is maintained at about 54 °F all year round (which is perfect for wine). Russian President Vladimir Putin celebrated his 50th birthday there. Visit to Bender Fortress that dates back from the 16th century, build by the Moldavian ruler Stefan cel Mare as a part of the defense chain on the Nistru river. In 1538, as the city became the part of the Ottoman empire the sultan Suleiman the Magnificent rebuild in stone the fortress and renamed the city as Bender. Now in the fortress can be seen the museum, the torture chamber and other well preserved sites.

Drive to Tiraspol, at the present moment the administrative center of the self proclaimed Transnistria (Moldova). Feel the atmosphere of this disputed territory which always has been a battlefield between the major powers of the region. The buildings of the Soviets, the monument of Suvorov, Central Plaza.
Day 3 Day 3: Soroca

Excursion to Soroca Fortress - Soroca Fortress is located 160 km from Chisinau. It was build between 1543-1546. It’s a huge fortification system placed on the bank of Nistru river to protect against the foreign invasions in the past.

- Excursion to the monument „Lumînarea Recunoştinţei” (the Candle of Recognition) in Soroca, dedicated to the author of the immortal popular work „Mioriţa”, Ion Druta. Nice monument that give a beautiful view of the Nistru river and Soroca town you’ll have the opportunity to claim around 650 steps on your way to the monument.

Visit to Castle Mimi Castle story begins in 1893 when Constantin Mimi, the last governor of Bessarabia, planted the first seedlings of grape vines on the site that would become legend over the years. Mimi was a great innovator of the times – he raised the Castle by a French project, first used in reinforced concrete and for construction, he invited Italians engineers. Curiously, the restoration of the castle to be led, after almost a century, also by an Italian designer. Day 5: Curchi Monastery Chateau Vartely

Visit to Curchi monastery is considered the most beautiful and famous monastery in Moldova. Its beginning starts in the 1773-1775 as a complex of six churches. After renovation that started in 2002 it’s a pearl of Moldavian religion and a symbol of spiritual revival.

The total length of the galleries consists of 200 km, from which more than 50 kmare used. Capriana Monastery is situated at the edge of a big forest between the villages Straseni and Capriana on the river Isnovat not far from Chisinau. It was founded in the XVth century during the rule of Alexandru cel Bun and reconstructed by Stefan the Great in 1470. The ensemble includes the Churches of Virgin’s Assumption (1545), Saint Nicholas (1840) and Saint George (1907) which abut the abbot’s house, the refectory and cells. The most ancient is the Virgin’s Assumption Church founded by Petru Rares. After reconstruction in 1820 by Metropolit G. Banulescu-Bodoni it kept unchanged only the decorative apses with arcature and the walls down to the socle level. In the course of construction a bell-house with a pyramidal roof and an octagonal dome with a bulbous turret over the naos were built. Visit to Hincu Monastery located at a distance of 70 kilometers from Moldavian capital dated from 1678. Tracing the history of the Hincu monastery reveals that Mihalcea Hincu, a noted courtier of the 17th century got away from the attacks of the tartars and managed to land in the clearings of the Codri forest. It was here that he vowed to build a monastery if he along with his daughter, Paraschiva, managed to live the tartar invasion.
