Our self-guided tours support by nature safe and health travelling, as you are travelling on your own in the wilderness, where there is hardly any other travellers or locals. Public transportations and possible the last kilometers in our transportation are required to arrive to our services.

Accommodation

You stay the nights in nature. Finland's every men rights mean that you can wild camp in nature (with some restrictions). Along the trail there are equipped camping sites with hut/lean-to, fire place, dry toilet, etc. You can bring your own tent or rent 2 or 4 person tents from us.

Transport

The basic price includes the rental of canoe/kayak, life jacket, related safety & cleaning equipment, smaller dry bags, the transportation to a paddling starting point from Ilomantsi centre or from Huhus and from paddling endpoint to Huhus, and waterproof paddling route map and instructions.

Price does not include, e.g.,: Arrival to Ilomantsi/start point, transportation from Patvinsuo, tent, sleeping bags, bigger waterproof bags, food, drinks, cookware and cutlery and travel insurance. Some of this you can buy or rent separately from us in Optional Extras when booking or afterwards.

Guide

Although this is a self-guided adventure KoiHu personnel is there to support and help throughout your adventure when needed.

Meals

Meals, drinks, cookware and cutlery are not included.

Insurance

Travel insurance is not covered in the tour price and we warmly recommend to have your own. You can organize travel insurance with your preferred insurance company.

Others

Flights and arrival to Ilomantsi area and back are not included. You can fly to Helsinki and take either flight or train (www.vr.fi) from Helsinki to Joensuu. From Joensuu you can take a bus to Ilomantsi or we can pick you up from Joensuu and also drop off for an extra charge. Other excluded are.,: Arrival to KoiHu Adventures in Huhus or Ilomantsi, tent, sleeping bags, bigger waterproof bags, food & drinks, cookware and cutlery and travel insurance, etc. Many of this you can rent separately in Extras.

  • Day 1 Day 1: Kallioniemi Or Huhus - The Start Point Of The Paddling Trail

      Day 1: Kallioniemi Or Huhus - The Start Point Of The Paddling Trail

      Trail starts from one of the first camp sites reachable by car in the uniform part of the river Koitajoki - these are Kallioniemi and Huhus camp sites - -1 or 2 paddling days. Here Koitajoki follows the roundings of the Kesonsuo Nature Reserve. Kesonsuo is exceptionally rich in bird life especially during migration in early spring, when you have a free attendance in a spectacular concert by the birds along the edge of the bog. 

  • Day 2 Day 2: Towards Koitere

      Day 2: Towards Koitere

      After paddling 30-50km in Koitajoki you enter to south waters of Koitere. If the wind is not too strong you are fine to continue.  On your way in Koitere thereโ€™s precipices of Kรคklinkallio and Kokkokallio on the left, and further up after passing Alanteenlahti part there are many small islands and in one of them there is an osprey nest! Try to spot these! 

  • Day 3 Day 3: Lammassari Island In Koitere

      Day 3: Lammassari Island In Koitere

      Canoeing in good weather conditions allows for unlimited opportunities to enjoy everything Koitere has to offer. You can spend the last night on one of Koitereโ€™s largest islands, Lammassaari island, or in some of the other islands. Lammassaari has itโ€™s own bond and lagoon. Also a short paddling route goes through the island in the north part. In Koitere you can paddle one or two days. 

  • Day 4 Day 4: Partala Or Kรคenkoski Boat Shore - The End Point Of The Paddling Trail

      Day 4: Partala Or Kรคenkoski Boat Shore - The End Point Of The Paddling Trail

      Depending on the start point, whether conditions, your paddling pace and your wishes the trail can end either to Partala shore along Koitere or to Kรคenkoski after paddling the river Syvรคysjoki. From Lammassaari to start of Syvรคysjoki it is 6km and Syvรคysjoki is 9km long. It ends up to small lake Kรคenlampi where the Kรคenkoski boat shore is.  To Partala shore from Lammassaari it is 7km. We will pick you up either of the end points as agreed.
