After breakfast you will meet your tour guide and learn interesting facts about the next days. Your first destination today is Bari and its lovingly restored old town, where Italian life takes place directly in the streets and squares. As if written for a commercial, you can see women with their nimble fingers forming the typical "orecchiette" on pasta boards. At the same time, the capital of Puglia is an economic center and important university town. Among other impressive buildings, the Romanesque Sanctuary of San Nicola is particularly worth seeing. The portals of the basilica are elaborately designed and show, for example, bulls on the main portal. Around noon you will enjoy the Apulian speciality "panzerotto". Comparable in form and preparation to a calzone, you will taste the typical dish. Afterwards, you will visit the mysterious castle dating back to the time of Emperor Frederick II. The Castel del Monte (UNESCO World Heritage Site) was built in the 13th century and is known worldwide as an ingenious example of medieval architecture, but combines building elements of different styles and eras: from the Roman lions at the entrance to the Gothic towers. Day 4: Trani And Barletta

In the morning you will explore Trani, one of the most beautiful port towns on the Costa di Bari. Bright limestone, still quarried in the area, makes the buildings and town shine. This includes the Cathedral of S. Nicola Pellegrino, located directly over the sea. The "queen of Apulian cathedrals" has a cohesive appearance, despite several interruptions in construction and an overall long building period. Opposite is the Staufer fort, once surrounded by water and used as a prison for several years. In Barlettaโ€™s pretty old town you will then be amazed by the various reminiscences of times long past. It was once the Italian headquarters of the Teutonic Knights, as well as a thriving Oriental port. You will then make your way all the way to the south of Puglia, where you will check into your hotel. 3 nights in Uggiano La Chiesa. (F)

In the afternoon, visit Otranto, located just 80 kilometers from Albania. The old town is very well preserved and presents itself as a real jewel. You will enjoy your dinner with your fellow travelers and your tour guide in a local fish restaurant. Freshly caught fish and typical Apulian cuisine make the get-together ideal. (B/A)

You will then head towards Bari, stopping on the coast at Polignano a Mare. Perched on a steep rocky outcrop, the town with its white-painted houses towers over the sea. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, you will be amazed by the trulli houses here. The cute little round houses with the characteristic pointed roofs are built of limestone slabs and are the landmark of the Puglia region. During your visit, you will stroll through the districts of Aia piccola and Rione Monti, where entire streets are adorned with trulli buildings. At the end of your eventful day, you will toast with local wines in a typical enoteca and enjoy small, tasty appetizers. Cin cin! (F)
