      Due to your arrival time, you will use the afternoon to explore Bari. A city where two souls coexist: the old center is surrounded by a magnificent city wall and consists of several streets that pass through the considerable cultural heritage. The modern part was created in the 19th century and has evolved over time into the city we see today. Do not forget to visit the Basilica of San Nicola.

      First you will go inland towards Andria, where the famous burrata (a type of mozzarella) is produced. Then you will reach the Alta Murgia National Park after about 10 kilometers and at the end you will arrive at Castel del Monte, a World Heritage Site: a unique in the world, octagonal castle encircled by eight octagonal towers.

      Todayโ€™s route will take you first to Altamura, a town particularly famous for the bread protected with the DOP denomination of origin. From afar you can see the towers of the cathedral reaching for the sky, which seems to attract the attention of visitors. Then they cycle towards MATERA. When speaking of Matera, one simply must mention the Sassi (superimposed dwelling caves) that have made this city famous all over the world. The Sassi, connected by winding streets and wide staircases, have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.

      Today you will continue cycling along the Ionian coast towards Ugento and Torre San Giovanni. On your way you will pass one of the most beautiful villages in Italy: Specchia. Then you will ride your bike to the most southern point of Salento: SANTA MARIA DI LEUCA. This small town impresses with its colors and the incredible tranquility that surrounds its church. This, first only a sanctuary, today basilica, also gives its name to the place and is also known as Santa Maria De finibus terrae (Santa Maria at the end of the world), after an ancient belief that considered it the end of all exalted lands.
