In the afternoon, meet your guide  and enjoy a walk in Matera old center. Matera is internationally known for its "Sassi ". The Sassi are original settlements of prehistoric (troglodyte) and apparently the first โ€œhousesโ€ in Italy. These houses excavated in the rock are characteristic of Basilicata and Puglia regions. Many of these "houses" are really only caverns, and the streets in some parts, go through the roofs of other houses. One of the peculiarities of this ancient city is its similarity to the ancient cities near Jerusalem. It was captured by the eyes of directors and film studios.  Overnight in Matera

Montescaglioso And Bernalda Out Of The Hidden Path

After breakfast, meet your driver-guide and head to the beautiful towns of Montescaglioso and Bernalda, two jewels that you wonโ€™t find in the Lonely Planet. Montescaglioso is one of the principal centers in the Province of Matera based on population, economic importance and historical and environmental heritage. The first activity here is documented beginning with the Bronze Age, while the first inhabited center was founded in the 9th-8th Centuries A.D., evidence of which is visible at Porta Schiavoni. The Norman presence favored urban development and population increase for Montescaglioso, already a settlement for a large Benedictine monastic community: the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo marked the cityโ€™s history up until the 1800s. Youโ€™ll have a stroll of the townโ€™s old center, a visit to the abbey and why not, youโ€™ll enjoy a pastry with the stunning view of the hills of Basilicata. After the visit of Montescaglioso, your Driver-guide will motor you to Bernalda. At the end of the day, continue to Lecce.

  • Day 5 Lecce And Otranto
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Lecce And Otranto

Meet your guide in the lobby of the centrally located hotel and start your city walking tour. Lecce is an art city known as "the Florence of the South" or "Florence of Baroque" after the ancient Messapian and archaeological remains of Roman rule. Expressions of Baroque exuberance, typically 17th century, are expressed in the buildings of churches and palaces of the Center. Completely made of local stone, a limestone which is malleable and very suitable working with a chisel. Visit the city of Lecce to see the Roman amphitheater built in the Augustan age built to entertain up to 14,000 spectators and located in the eastern side of the Roman city. One end is dug in the soil and on the other side are arcades and columns. It is near Santโ€™Oronzo Plaza. Youโ€™ll then visit the Cathedral and the old city. In the afternoon, meet your driver-escort and head to Otranto for a visit on your own. It is certainly one of Pugliaโ€™s most charming towns and is well worth a visit. The imposing castle, thick perimeter walls and robust towers (built after the town was liberated from the Turks in the late 15th century) dominate much of the town, giving way to a small port, a series of sea-front promenades with excellent fish restaurants and the townโ€™s very own beautiful white sandy beach and turquoise waters. The delightful Romanesque cathedral, dating back to 1088 and boasting extensive 12th century floor mosaics, is another highlight that should not be missed.

  • Day 6 Lecce, Ostuni, Martina Franca
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Lecce, Ostuni, Martina Franca

Today youโ€™ll head to Martina Franca, to check-in at your hotel but with an en-route stop in Ostuni. Considered the first town of Salento (the southern part of the region), Ostuni is characterized by the limitless beauty of the โ€œall-whiteโ€ town center, the Baroque cathedral, and the breathtaking views of the Itria Valley and the Adriatic sea, unmissable! After the visit to Ostuni, continue with your driver-escort to Martina Franca. This small city jewel is its lovely historic center, a memorable maze of winding alleys, where whitewashed simplicity sits side by side with baroque extravagance. During the visit to the town, youโ€™ll stop in a famous cafe for a taste of the โ€œFicazzeddeโ€ , a typical dessert from Martina. At the end of the walk, head to your hotel for checking-in.

  • Day 7 Locorotondo, Cisternino, And Alberobello
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Locorotondo, Cisternino, And Alberobello

After breakfast, meet your driver-guide and head to Locorotondo for a stroll in the city center. This picturesque town is nicknamed "the balcony on the Itria Valley" because of its spectacular valley views. Considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, it offers visitors the opportunity to get lost between picturesque narrow stone streets and small white houses with gable roofs called "Cummerse". The name Locorotondo comes from the Latin โ€œLocus rotundasโ€ which means rounded place because the town is a perfect circle on top of a hill. At the end of the visit youโ€™ll head to Cisternino, a whitewashed hilltop town, slow-paced Cisternino has a charming centro storico beyond its bland modern outskirts; with its kasbah-like knot of streets, it has been designated as one of the countryโ€™s โ€œborghi piรน belliโ€ (most beautiful towns). Beside its 13th-century Chiesa Matrice and Torre Civica thereโ€™s a pretty communal garden with rural views. Last stop of the day, but not the least will be Alberobello. The town has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1996, and has the largest number of Trulli concentrated in a town. With destinations that attract millions of tourists to its narrow streets, Alberobello offers visitors a unique scenario. Two particularly striking districts include: "Rione Monti" with its local handicraft shops and "Aia Piccola", where the most ancient Trulli and little museums are situated. At the end of the visit, head back to your hotel in Martina Franca.
