From this mountain park you have a breathtaking view of the city and the bay. Next, the Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site) awaits you. The inhabitants of Baku call it "Icheri Scheher", as it is an original and unique example of urban planning architecture. Marvel at mosques, fortresses and the old caravanserai preserved from the time of trading in the Middle Ages. In the afternoon, you will also visit the Heydar Aliyev Cultural Center, built by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid and a landmark of modern Baku. Day 3: Natural Phenomenon Ateshgah Temple Of Zoroastrianism

As todayโ€™s highlight the Absheron Peninsula is waiting for you. At the beginning you will visit the city of Surakhani with the famous Ateshgah fire temple from the 18th century. Part caravanserai, part fire temple, this stands on the site of a natural gas well and was sacred to Zoroastrians for centuries. Witness a thousand-year-old culture by visiting ancient villages such as Gala, which is still known for sheep breeding and wool production. The next destination is Jamardagh, the Fire Mountain. This was already mentioned in Marco Poloโ€™s writings in the 13th century. Even today you can see the natural gas flames of this inconspicuous elevation. (F)

Admire more than 6000 rock paintings depicting people, animals, work scenes, common hunting and dancing, as well as former caves and objects. World-renowned Norwegian scientist Thor Heyerdahl compared this to similar ancient designs in Norway and concluded that Scandinavians may have come from what is now Azerbaijan. (F)

Afterwards, you will visit the village of Lahij, which is known for its Persian dialect and its traditional coppersmiths (depending on weather conditions). Todayโ€™s highlight awaits you in the village of Nij, which is famous for its old religious buildings and its inhabitants: it is the only place in the world where the Udins live. This very old Caucasian ethnic group has developed its own authentic culture and traditions over the centuries. Sheki is located in the middle of beautiful forested mountains and is considered the most beautiful city in all of Azerbaijan. The old tiled roof houses and the Khanโ€™s Palace, which served as the Khanโ€™s summer residence, are worthy of mention here. A treat for the palate is also a must, so you can follow the production process of the national sweets during a visit to a baklava confectionery and taste them yourself. Afterwards, stop at a local family for a well-deserved tea break and spend the afternoon in the mountain village of Kish. (B/A)

  • Day 7 Day 7: Ganja
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 7: Ganja

Today the second largest city of the country awaits you. Ganja is a monument of ancient culture and played an important role in the history of Azerbaijan. It is located at the crossroads of the caravan route, where travelers and famous scholars with world names stopped. In addition, it was considered a trade center for fur, silk, spices, Damascus steel and other treasures. No wonder that the name of the city means "treasure". One of the most famous inhabitants was the poet Nizami Gyanjevi, whose mausoleum you will visit. Another architectural monument was created by Sheikh Bahauddin and includes a caravanserai, the Shah Abbas Mosque (Friday Mosque) and the medieval bath (Chรถkak- Haman). An architectural-astronomical sophistication of the mosque indicates with the disappearance of its shadow on the western wall that it is time for the noon prayer. 1 night in Ganja. (B/A)
