The time difference means you land on the same day, crazy right? But New York is just a stopover, because before you plunge into Manhattan’s urban canyons, you first take the train to Philadelphia. Not quite as famous, but no less exciting! Your train races south past picture-book American towns while you dream of the many adventures that await you in the land of opportunity. After checking in, take a short tour around the hotel before ending the day in one of the many bars and toasting to an unforgettable time with the locals. Cheers!

Finally some real time to explore Philly! The historic metropolis immediately casts a spell over you. Off to the first highlight and photo opportunity: the famous Liberty Bell at Independence Hall, where the American Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776. Reading the inscription on the bell gives you goosebumps: History was literally made in this place! Leave your camera outside right away, because a few streets away, the iconic LOVE sculpture by pop artist Robert Indiana is already waiting for you as the next photo spot. One more Insta-worthy snapshot and you’re off in search of the city’s culinary highlights. Again, it’s not long to the Reading Terminal Market, which serves all kinds of delicacies under an old train station. Freshly fortified, head towards the Schuylkill River, where you can do as the world’s most famous Hollywood boxer did and sprint up the 72 steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. With a euphoric Rocky grin on your face, you look out over the skyline of this unique city. Legendary!

A new day, a new highlight! Full of anticipation, you make your way to the station, because today the train is taking you to your next adventure: Washington, D.C. But this isn’t just a train ride, it’s an experience all of its own! So you press your nose firmly against the window: small towns, large cities and pure wilderness pass you by in an interplay along the train line. But don’t get too carried away! After a good two hours, it’s "Next stop - Washington, D.C."!
Welcome to the capital of the United States. Quickly stow your suitcases in the hotel, but you won’t be staying long. Your curiosity about the city - the most powerful city in the world - is far too great. And it is unexpectedly tranquil. Hustle and bustle, skyscrapers? Not a chance! Make sure you take a detour into the cobblestone alleyways of Georgetown, perhaps the most beautiful district in the city, and try the food on offer at Ben’s Chili Bowl. It’s not without reason that the snack bar attracts all the big names from show business and politics.

The early bird flies to Washington’s center of power! Because the list of must-sees is long. So where to start? At the Capitol, of course, which sits majestically on Capitol Hill. Standing in front of the imposing, snow-white building, which you’ve only seen on TV so far, is a bit overwhelming! After all, history was and is made here every day. I wonder what it looks like inside? You can find out on a free guided tour! Continue through the National Mall to the Lincoln Memorial. The almost five-kilometre-long park in the center of Washington stretches like a huge promenade between the important monuments. And that’s not all - there are numerous museums and sights around the National Mall: Museums such as the National Museum of Natural History, the National Museum of American History and the impressive Washington Monument, which rises 169.05 meters into the air. From here, you can even catch a glimpse of the president’s famous residence. A detour to the White House is of course a must. What is impressive from afar is almost intimidating up close! Hardly any other building has as much charisma, character, power and history as the White House!

So it’s high time to head to the station, from where the Amtrak train will take you to the grand finale of your US adventure. "Next stop: New York City!" Take the subway or a cab to your hotel.
You check in, but can’t stay inside for long - your curiosity about the megacity is far too great! What better way to get an overview of the metropolis than from above? "The Edge" offers you a breathtaking view of the unmistakable skyline (optional, payable on site). Do you dare to look down through the glass floor? Last destination for today: Times Square, the beating heart of the city. It is shrill, colorful, hectic and loud here at any time of day or night. Neon signs and video screens vie for your attention and you don’t know where to look first!

Are you ready for the urban jungle? Start your city tour early in the morning at the famous Brooklyn Bridge. The view of Manhattan in the light of the rising sun is magical! Fancy breakfast? Be sure to try the bagel creations at Ess-a-Bagel! Well fortified, let yourself drift through Manhattan - literally: take the free ferry to Staten Island, which will take you to the city’s landmark - Lady Liberty. It’s an incredible feeling to stand right in front of this graceful figure. From the ferry, you have a fantastic view of the skyline, whose skyscrapers glitter in the sunlight. Back on land, we head to another must-see: the 9/11 Memorial (optional, payable on site), which commemorates the attacks of September 11, 2001. At Ground Zero, where the Twin Towers once stood, there are now two fountains that make the gap clearly visible. The best place to end the afternoon is Greenwich Village. It is teeming with pretty boutiques, vintage stores and cozy cafés.

One big highlight is still missing: Central Park! New York’s green lung is a must-see on any trip! And luckily it’s not far away. Here you can escape the urban jungle for a while. With a coffee in hand, make yourself comfortable on a park bench and observe life away from the hustle and bustle before taking a closer look at Midtown Manhattan. In addition to the famous Empire State Building and the Flatiron Building, you’ll also find plenty of food trucks that will make your culinary heart beat faster.

What you definitely shouldn’t miss: the Meatpacking District! The former industrial buildings, brick buildings and cobblestone alleyways take you on a journey back in time to old New York. The poor, disreputable industrial district has become one of the most affluent areas of the city - with one of the most extraordinary parks in the world: the High Line Park! At a height of nine meters, you can stroll through the green park between skyscrapers. Sounds crazy? It is! Because the park was built on an old elevated train line. And while you’re in the Meatpacking District, be sure to pay a visit to Chelsea Market. Foodie hearts do somersaults here!
