  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Arica

      Day 1: Arrival In Arica

      After landing in Chileโ€™s northernmost city, you will drive to the hotel with your tour guide. You will explore the city center on foot and, after a short hike up the hill "El Morro", you will have a beautiful view over the city. If you dare, you can take a refreshing dip in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Arica - Azapa Valley - Putre

      Day 2: Arica - Azapa Valley - Putre

      You leave the coast and drive through the valley of Azapa to the museum of the same name. Here you can marvel at mummies that are over 7,000 years old, making them among the oldest in the world. Passing the pre-Columbian fortress of Pukara de Copaquilla, the road winds its way up in serpentines towards the Altiplano before you reach the idyllic Andean village of Putre at around 3350 m above sea level. Treat yourself to your first alpaca steak in the evening! Overnight stay in the hotel. (Travel time approx. 3 hours, 150 km).

      Day 3: Lauca National Park - Parinacota

      Today you reach the true Altiplano with the Lauca National Park. Lago Chungara is located at an altitude of 4500 meters, in which the two majestic twin volcanoes Parinacota and Pomerape are reflected. On a hike amidst this fascinating scenery, you will get to know the parkโ€™s rich flora and fauna. You will then visit the Andean village of Parinacota. Overnight stay as on the previous day.   • Day 4 Day 4: Acclimatization: Suriplaza

      Day 4: Acclimatization: Suriplaza

      For optimal acclimatization, you undertake an easy hike in a fantastically beautiful landscape (at approx. 4750 m): the Suriplaza is a vast, volcanic plateau framed by colourful and majestic volcanoes. Those who feel fit can climb Cerro Cosapilla (5350 m). Overnight stay as on the previous day. (Travel time approx. 3h, 100 km; walking time approx. 4h, 550 mโ†‘โ†“).

  • Day 5 Day 5: Salar De Surire - Colchane

      Day 5: Salar De Surire - Colchane

      The majestic Salar de Surire with its thermal springs at 4200 m is one of the highlights of this trip. The radiant white of the salt lake stretches between ochre-colored mountain peaks. Enjoy the scenery during a soothing bath. Then drive to the picturesque village of Colchane at the foot of the Isluga volcano (5530 m). On the way you will come across nandus, flamingos, vicuรฑas and alpacas. Overnight stay in private accommodation. (Travel time approx. 6 hours, 170 km).

      Day 6: Colchane - Salar De Uyuni

      Today you cross the border into Bolivia. Depending on the weather, you will drive around the Salar de Coipasa or cross the countryโ€™s second-largest salt lake, covering almost 2,500 kmยฒ. Get in the mood for the Salar de Uyuni and let yourself be mesmerized by the first surreal impressions. In Tahua you will reach the northern shore of the mighty Salar, where you will move into your accommodation for the next two nights. Overnight stay in a guest house.       Day 7: Ascent Of Tunupa Volcano (5432 M)

      After a hearty breakfast, lace up your hiking boots and shoulder your rucksack. Todayโ€™s destination towers majestically above you: the summit of Tunupa. At first you walk along fields and pastures before the path winds its way leisurely and steadily upwards, becoming more indistinct. The summit of Tunupa offers one of the most privileged views of the Andes plateau. To the south, the immensity of the Uyuni salt flats stretches out. To the north, the vast area of the Coipasa salt flats extends as far as the Payachatas and the Sajama volcano (6542 m), the highest mountain in Bolivia. The descent follows the same route.   • Day 8 Day 8: Isla Incahuasi

      Day 8: Isla Incahuasi

      Your day starts early so that you can enjoy the sunrise in this unique place. Marvel as the sun rises over the seemingly endless salt desert and its shadows grow longer and longer - an impressive experience. You cross the Salar and visit Incahuasi Island, which is overgrown with numerous cacti. After a fortifying breakfast, you make your way to Isla del Pescado/Isla Pia Pia - a rarely visited island in the middle of the vast desert. Overnight stay in a guest house in Chuvica. (Travel time approx. 3h 120 km; walking time approx. 2h, 100 mโ†‘โ†“).

  • Day 9 Day 9: Salar De Uyuni - Quetena Chico

      Day 9: Salar De Uyuni - Quetena Chico

      You say goodbye to your hosts and cross the sea of salt once again, heading south. Your destination is the bizarre rock formations of the Canon de la Anaconda. You will come across herds of llamas on an easy hike. Overnight stay in a guest house. (Travel time approx. 6 hours, 300 km).

  • Day 10 Day 10: Ascent Of The Uturuncu (6008 M)

      Day 10: Ascent Of The Uturuncu (6008 M)

      Uturuncu is the only volcano in the region to surpass the magical 6000 m mark. A gravel road takes you along one of the highest roads in the world at around 5600 m. The route to the summit first takes you past fumaroles before you start the steeper part. After climbing around 400 meters, you will be rewarded at 6008 m with a breathtaking view over the literal lunar landscape. Overnight stay in the guesthouse. (Walking time approx. 3h, 400mโ†‘โ†“).

  • Day 11 Day 11: Reserva Avaroa - Dali Desert - San Pedro De Atacama

      Day 11: Reserva Avaroa - Dali Desert - San Pedro De Atacama

      The off-road vehicles set off in the morning and head south towards Reserva Avaroa, crossing the Dali Desert and being enchanted by the colorful lagoons of the south. The Licancabur (5920 m) with its almost perfect cone shape is the proverbial crowning glory. At Hito Cajon, you cross the border into Chile and drive to the oasis town of San Pedro de Atacama. Enjoy the sunset in the Moon Valley and marvel at how the unreal desert landscape and the mountains behind it are bathed in various shades of red. Overnight stay at the hotel.   • Day 12 Day 12: Ascent Cerro Toco (5600 M)

      The third stage is imminent. You leave the oasis heading east and drive to the starting point for the ascent of Cerro Toco. The inactive volcano is technically easy and offers spectacular views of Licancabur and the picturesque lagoons at the foot of the volcano. Descent via the same route.   • Day 13 Day 13: Lagunas Escondidas - Rainbow Valley

      Day 13: Lagunas Escondidas - Rainbow Valley

      Off the beaten track, there are seven small lagoons in the middle of the Salar de Atacama. The turquoise water contrasts strikingly with the white salt desert. Explore the surroundings on an easy hike. You will then visit the Rainbow Valley with its colorful canyon and bizarre rock formations. In the evening, a typical Atacameรฑo meal awaits you as a culinary finale to the trip. Overnight stay as on the previous day. (walking time approx. 3h).

  • Day 14 Day 14: Departure

      Day 14: Departure

      You leave this inhospitable and fascinating region and drive to the airport in Calama. You will travel home to Europe via Santiago. (Alternatively, you can extend your trip to the mystical island of Easter Island to get to the bottom of the origin of the Moai. Or how about another trekking adventure: Patagonia and the famous Torres del Paine National Park have a lot to offer.
