  • Day 2 Day 2: Amber Mountain National Park

      Day 2: Amber Mountain National Park

      After breakfast, we set off to the Amber Mountain, a long-extinct volcano covered by primary tropical rainforest, including craters and waterfalls. Located 40 km away from Diego Suarez, the parc shelters a bewildering array of animals and plants that have specially adapted to thrive in this moist โ€™islandโ€™ of biological diversity. Lemurs, birds, chameleons, geckos, and immense rain forest trees, are among some of the natural wonders you will encounter. The altitude of the parc is between 850 and 1 475 m, which allows for some beautiful panoramas of the Diego bay area.

      Day 3: 3 Bays

      The 3 bays are the Sakalava bay, the Dunes and Pigeons bay. Itโ€™s a quiet place with stunning white sand beaches with a nice view of the Emerald sea and the Diego Bay. One can have a stroll from bay to bay, or do it in the comfort of your 4x4 vehicle.

      There is also a historical side to the 3 bays :at the end of the excurions, at Cap Minรฉ, one can see whatโ€™s left of the WWII cannons that were used during the Battle of Madagascar between the Allies and the Vichy-controlled military in Diego Suarez in 1942.We depart to Diego via Orangea, an ex-military camp, another reminder of Diegoโ€™s rich military history.

      Day 4: Diego -Ankarana 120 Km

      Departure to Ankarana ,the Ankarana East Reserve is rich in endemic fauna and flora, lemurs, bats and birds.  Visiting some of the caves you will see stalagmites, stalactites, immense rooms, underground and disappearing rivers, and fantastic fauna and flora.  We also get to see the mighty Grey Tsingy in Ankarana as we further explore .

      IMPORTANT REMARK : the visit do not always take place as described, depending on the fitness of the clients, the weather conditions and the duration of the visit (half day, one full day or two days).

      Clients should consult with our guides beforehand to know whch sites of the Ankarana reserve they will actually see.

      Day 5: Ankarana- Red Tsingy -Diego 180 Km

      We return back to Diego,  stop to red Tsingy, located 65 km from Diego, near the Analamera reserve, the red Tsingy are the result of a long erosion process of the red soil. The red Tsingy have nothing in common with their bigger cousins, the grey Tsingy in Ankarana, however similar the shapes might be. They are not cut out of hard rock. Instead, itโ€™s the winds and rains over time that have produced these fragile structures.

      Day 6: Diego- Emerald Dea

      We leave the hotel to go to Ramena, a fishermenโ€™s village outside the town of Diego. From there, we embark in a motorized dinghy to reach the Emerald Sea lagoon, with its crystal-clear blue-green waters (hence its name) and its beautiful coral reefs filled with multi-colored fish. While youโ€™ll lazily snorkel close to the beach, our guides, sometimes with the help of local fishermen, will get fresh fish that will be grilled for your pic-nic lunch. We go back to Ramena after lunch and then to Diego.
