      Today you will fly to the capital of Madagascar.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Ambohimanga

      Day 3: Ambohimanga

      The day begins with a drive to Ambohimanga (UNESCO World Heritage Site), the sacred city of the Merina, whose kings first united all regions of the island under themselves. No foreigner was allowed to enter the city until it was subjugated by the French in 1896. On the way to Andasibe National Park, you will visit a new beekeeping project in Manjakandriana. After dark, observe nocturnal animals on a walk along the forest edge. 2 nights in Andasibe. (B/A)

      Day 4: Perinet And Vakona

      On an early morning hike through the dense rainforest of Andasibe Analamazaotra National Park, look for the famous "Indri", the largest living species of lemur. Chameleons, tenrecs, colorful insects and bamboo lemurs hide in the thicket. Your guide will show you precious woods, orchids, climbing plants and cacti. Later, in the private Vakona Reserve, you will meet some lemurs up close. If you are interested, you will follow a nature trail through the diverse flora along a water body where crocodiles cavort.       Day 5: The Life Of The Locals

      Your first stop is at the reptile farm of Marozevo with rare chameleon and frog species. Afterwards, you will drive through the volcanic highlands to Ambatolampy, where locals make cooking pots and figurines from recycled aluminum. In the afternoon, you will reach the former colonial town of Antsirabe, known for its thermal springs. On a rickshaw tour along the wide boulevards with old mansions, peek into small workshops that process gemstones and zebu horn or make miniature bicycles. 1 night there. (B/A)

      Day 6: Ranomafana

      You follow the national road through the land of the Betsileo, past picturesque farmhouses and green rice terraces. In Abositra, you will look over the shoulders of the wood carvers of the Zafimaniry people as they produce fine inlaid work. Your destination today is Ranomafana, where you will go on a game drive after dark. 2 nights there. (B/A)

      In the morning you will explore Madagascarโ€™s most biodiverse primary forest. Your local guide knows the favorite places of the lemurs. Perhaps you will spot the golden bamboo lemur, discovered only in 1986, in the dense mountain cloud forest. In the afternoon you will drive to a village of the Tamala, also called people of the forest. Enjoy a bath in the hot thermal springs (optional). (B/A)

      Day 8: The Antaimoro

      You continue your journey south and reach Ambalavao, known for the handmade paper of the Antaimoro and fine silk scarves. Continue to Anja Lemur Park, a prime example of the local peopleโ€™s successful contribution to sustainable tourism. On a hike through the dry forest, keep an eye out for the more than 400 katta lemurs (easy, approx. 1.5 km, walking time: approx. 1 hr.). On the way to Ihosy you will notice the impressive change from the terraced green highlands to the dry region of the south at the granite formation "Gate of the South". Passing the sacred "Bishopโ€™s Hat", the road leads across the plateau of Horombe dead straight to Ranohira. 2 nights there. (B/A)

      Day 9: Isalo National Park

      A breathtaking sandstone mountain range with rugged gorges, bizarre rock formations, natural pools and amazing flora and fauna stretches over more than 80,000 ha, which you will explore today on a hike (moderate, approx. 2-3 hrs.). In the afternoon you will visit the village of Maromaniry. Here you will experience first hand the daily life of the polygamous Baras, one of the most impressive peoples of Madagascar. The view through the "window of Isalo" at sunset rounds off your day perfectly. (B/A)

  • Day 10 Day 10: Tulear

      Day 10: Tulear

      Your guide knows exciting things about the time of sapphire mining in this region, about production and trade. Your first stop is the Zombitse National Park. On a hike you will look for representatives of more than 80 bird species (easy, approx. 1 hour). You will also pass imposing Mahafaly and Antandroy burial sites. Afterwards, you will visit a private arboretum that cultivates over 1,000 collected plant species of the south, the biological classification of which has not yet been completed. Continue via the port town of Tulear to your beautiful beach hotel in Ifaty. 3 nights there. (B/A)

      Day 11: Ifaty

      The next few days are entirely up to you. You decide whether you prefer to relax on the beach or get active. Let yourself drift in a boat on the turquoise blue water and contemplate the underwater world while snorkeling or diving. During the months from July to mid-September you have the opportunity to watch the impressive humpback whales on your migration in the Mozambique Channel (all activities optional, bookable on site).
