Itinerary of your trip Through The Wilderness Of Alaska And The Yukon

  • Day 1 Day 1: Arrival In Anchorage
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 1: Arrival In Anchorage

Welcome to Alaska! Reception at the airport by the tour guide and transfer to the hotel, meeting and getting to know the other tour participants. Overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 2 Day 2: Anchorage - Seward
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 2: Anchorage - Seward

Lake Spenard is home to the largest seaplane airport in the world. In summer, up to 800 planes take off and land here every day. Nearby, you can admire many legendary airplanes in the Aviation Museum. The journey then begins with a drive along the Turnagain Arm, which separates the Kenai Peninsula from the mainland and is flooded twice a day by a tidal wave. Lush vegetation awaits you on the Kenai Peninsula until you reach the coastal town of Seward, where you will go on a hike in the afternoon. Options include the spectacular Coastal Trail (depending on the tide), the Salmon River at Tonsina Beach or the historic Fort McGilvary. Overnight stay at the hotel in Seward.

  • Day 3 Day 3: Seward
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 3: Seward

Today you have several activities to choose from: You can join one of the attractive 6-hour boat tours to Kenai Fjords National Park (optional), one of the best ways to experience the marine wildlife and unique glacial world of South Alaska - including the breathtaking feeling of venturing close to calving glaciers. A visit to the seawater aquarium, the Sea Life Center, is also worthwhile. Finally, the restaurants in Seward are known for their excellent fish dishes. Donโ€™t miss out on this opportunity! Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 4 Day 4: Seward - Denali National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 4: Seward - Denali National Park

From Seward, we head back across the Turnagain Arm today. Keep an eye out for beluga whales, which are often found in the bay. The journey continues past Anchorage to the famous Denali National Park. On the way, you may have the chance to catch a glimpse of Mt. Denali, the highest mountain in North America at 6193 meters. In the evening, you have the opportunity to take part in an approx. one-hour glacier flight (optional). Overnight stay in a hotel near the park.

  • Day 5 Day 5: "Safari" In Denali National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 5: "Safari" In Denali National Park

Today you will spend the day in the unique Denali National Park. Take the parkโ€™s own shuttle bus along the only road into the impressive landscape. With a bit of luck, you may spot bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep and perhaps even wolves along the way. The bus stops at every animal sighting so that you have time to observe and take photos. Return to the park entrance in the evening. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 6 Day 6: Denali National Park - Glennallen
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 6: Denali National Park - Glennallen

Today you drive east on the Denali Highway, probably the most beautiful road in Alaska. The 218 km long gravel road always takes you along the mountains of the Alaska Range with movie-like panoramic views and is used by very few visitors to Denali. The nature road is still a real tip! Overnight stay at the hotel in Glennallen.

  • Day 7 Day 7: Glennallen - Dawson City
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 7: Glennallen - Dawson City

Another wonderful "highway" is the Top of the World Highway, a spectacular and lonely high-altitude road that leads over alpine plateaus. Experience a unique landscape between boreal coniferous forest and tundra on the drive to the highest and northernmost border crossing between the Alaska and Yukon Territories in Canada. On the way, you pass tiny villages with curious names such as Action Jackson, Jack Wade Camp or Chicken, a quirky little gold mining village with 15 inhabitants. The ferry across the Yukon River then takes you to historic Dawson City. Overnight stay in a hotel.

  • Day 8 Day 8: Dawson City: Back In The Gold Mining Town
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 8: Dawson City: Back In The Gold Mining Town

Dawson City is located at the mouth of the Klondike and Yukon Rivers. A large gold deposit was discovered on the Klondike in 1896, triggering the gold rush: at its peak, over 40,000 people lived in Dawson - today there are fewer than 1400! The buildings in Dawson have been lovingly restored or rebuilt in the old style and still convey the flair of the gold rush days. Gold is still being mined today at Bonanza Creek and Eldorado Creek and you can visit one of the active gold mines (optional). A trip up the Midnight Dome, the townโ€™s local mountain, provides a great overview. In the evening, enjoy the Klondike show with cancan dance girls at the Diamond Tooth Gerties Casino, taking you back to the old days. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 9 Day 9: Hike In The Tombstone Mountains
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 9: Hike In The Tombstone Mountains

Today, an unforgettable day hike awaits you on the Dempster Highway - this gravel road is the only road connection up to Inuvik far beyond the Arctic Circle in the Northwest Territories, over 730 km in total. The spectacular day hike starts at the Tombstone Mountains, just 100 km from Dawson, in this unique environment of tundra and mountain landscape. Every season has its own special charm in this area. The coloration of the landscape in early autumn is downright overwhelming. The black basalt mountains appear to be from another planet and were an important and highly visible landmark for the early trappers and patrols of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 10 Day 10: Dawson City - Whitehorse
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 10: Dawson City - Whitehorse

From Dawson, todayโ€™s journey takes you along the mighty Yukon River, which you will see several times. At almost 3200 km, it is one of the longest rivers in North America. You will visit the "Five-Finger Rapids", the famous rapids of the Yukon River - a dangerous obstacle for ships on their way to the Klondike in the days of gold prospecting. Along the way, the villages and buildings along the so-called Klondike Highway will remind you of the old gold prospecting days. Overnight stay in a hotel.

  • Day 11 Day 11: Whitehorse - Haines Junction
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 11: Whitehorse - Haines Junction

In Whitehorse, you will visit the "Fish Ladder", a "staircase" for the salmon, which can cross the dam on their way to spawn. You then drive along the Alaska Highway to Haines Junction. In the afternoon, take a 4-hour hike on the Auriol Trail through the magnificent landscape of Kluane National Park. Overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day 12 Day 12: Hike In Kluane National Park
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 12: Hike In Kluane National Park

Kluane National Park is not only the largest national park in Canada, it also protects the largest contiguous glacier area on earth, apart from the South and North Poles. Mt. Logan (5959 m), the highest mountain in Canada, is also located here, hidden deep in the hinterland. To this day, this huge national park remains largely undeveloped and virtually untouched, providing a habitat for many animals, including the shy Dall sheep. Today is planned entirely for a hike in these fantastic surroundings. There are numerous trails available for this. One of the most spectacular is on Sheep Mountain, overlooking the mighty Kluane Lake. There is also an excellent chance of spotting Dall sheep here. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

  • Day 13 Day 13: Haines Junction - Skagway
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

Day 13: Haines Junction - Skagway

You leave Kluane National Park and drive past Kathleen Lake and Dezedash Lake through a breathtaking pass and mountain landscape across the US border into the coastal region of Alaska and thus into a new climate zone. On the way you will pass the Bald Eagle Valley, home to a large population of bald eagles. After arriving in the coastal town of Haines - set against the mighty backdrop of the snow-capped Chilkat Mountain Range - you will take the ferry through Lynn Fjord to Skagway, where you may be able to spot sea otters, puffins, sea lions or even whales. In Skagway, you should definitely end the evening with live music and drinks in one of the historic bars such as the Red Onion Saloon - a brothel in the gold rush era. Overnight stay in a hotel in Skagway.

  • Day 14 Day 14: Skagway - Whitehorse
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 14: Skagway - Whitehorse

In Skagway you return to the time of the gold rush. The entire town is a protected monument. The ships carrying gold seekers from the south landed in the small town, making it the starting point for the arduous route over the Chilkoot Pass to reach the gold fields on the Klondike on the other side of the Yukon River. You can get an impression of the dreaded trail on a short hike along the lower section. From Skagway, you then head back towards Whitehorse via the Klondike Highway through a fantastic landscape of lakes and tundra with short stops at the enchanting Emerald Lake and the Carcross Desert, the smallest desert in the world. Overnight stay in a hotel.

  • Day 15 Day 15: Departure
    • 12:00 am - 11:59 pm

      Day 15: Departure

Transfer to the airport and individual journey home or onwards.
