      After breakfast, drive to Atjoni. Civilization ends here and you continue on a small boat into the deep jungle of South America. You have some time to enjoy the amenities of the lodge before taking a boat trip on the river in the late afternoon, where you are likely to spot caimans and other animals. Overnight stay in a lodge.

      This morning is dedicated to the Saramaka Maroon, the descendants of African slaves who found their home here on the Suriname River. You will learn a lot about their history and traditions and gain an insight into the everyday life of the inhabitants. In the afternoon, you will go on a hike through the fascinating rainforest and try to better understand its symbiosis of flora and fauna. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Spend the morning enjoying nature in the picturesque surroundings before setting off on the return journey to Paramaribo. You first travel by canoe to Atjoni, where the vehicles are already waiting for you. Overnight stay at the hotel.

      Day 6: Paramaribo: Colonial Flair And A Colorful Mix Of Cultures

      Today you will explore the capital on foot. Your route first takes you to Fort Zeelandia and on to the Presidential Palace. You will pass colonial alleyways such as Lim a Po Street and visit the synagogue and the mosque, which stand right next to each other here and symbolically represent the diversity of the country. On the other side of the river, you continue your exploration tour and visit the former Peperpot plantation and learn more about the history of the place and the country. The day ends with a detour to Fort Nieuw Amsterdam. In the evening, you have the option of taking a boat trip in Leonsburg and watching dolphins. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      A long day of driving is on the program today. You leave Suriname by land and drive through the typical farm landscape of the region to Guyana. You cross the border river by ferry and reach Georgetown in the evening. Overnight stay in a hotel.

      Together with Chef Delven Adams, you will first go to the Bourda market in the morning and then to the fish market. Exploring the market and the city with him is a real highlight and gives you great access to the stallholders. You will also stroll through the historic old town with the largest free-standing wooden building in the world, St. Georgeโ€™s Cathedral. After lunch at the Backyard Cafe, you will visit the botanical garden and a wildlife sanctuary. In the afternoon, you can take an optional excursion to the Demerara River to witness the evening spectacle of the flocks of birds flying in. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      In the morning, you fly in a small plane over seemingly endless rainforest to the Kaieteur Falls, at 226 m one of the highest free-falling waterfalls in the world. But it is not only the falls that are interesting, there is also a special nature and fauna to discover. Numerous bromeliads, a unique bird world and the small "Golden Frog" are at home here. Return flight to Georgetown. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Day 10: Drive Into The Heart Of Guyana

      You leave civilization and drive to Kurupukari, where you cross the Essequibo River. The destination of the trip is the Atta Rainforest Lodge. You will go to lofty heights (30 m) and explore the upper levels of the rainforest on the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway, on four suspension bridges. Afterwards, you will go in search of the Crimson Fruitcrow and the Black Currasow. Overnight stay in a lodge. (Travel time approx. 8 hours, 360 km).

      Day 11: High Up In The Canopy

      Although the forest around Atta Lodge is already an excellent birding spot, todayโ€™s walk takes you back to the canopy walkway before sunrise. Birds to spot include Rufous-throated Sapphire, Green Aracari and Pygmy Antwren. With a bit of luck, you may also spot the Guianan Toucanet and Pompadour Cotinga as well as howler and spider monkeys. The day then offers various other observation tours to discover mammals, reptiles, birds and insects. After dusk, you set off on a night hike in the light of flashlights. Overnight stay as on the previous day.

      Before breakfast, you will have another opportunity to look out for the animal inhabitants on the canopy walkway and experience the rainforest as it awakens. You drive to Corkwood and go on a hike to discover the beautiful Guiana cock-of-the-rock. On a boat trip on the Rupununi River to Rewa, keep an eye out for caimans and giant otters. Your hosts at the Rewa Eco-Lodge are already waiting for you. You then drive to a lake on which the gigantic Victoria amazonica water lilies grow with a diameter of up to three meters. Overnight stay in a lodge.

      Day 13: In Search Of Theraphosa Blondi

      Start the day in style with breakfast by the river. After a short boat trip on the Rupununi River, you change perspective and hike up Awarmie Mountain, from whose plateau you can see the surrounding area, the savannah and the Kanuku Mountains. Here, too, you have the opportunity to spot numerous animals. After lunch at the foot of the mountain, you try to track down a strange creature. With a leg length of up to 28 cm and a body size of up to 12 cm, the Goliath giant spider (Theraphosa blondi) is the largest spider in the world. Overnight stay as the day before.

      You say goodbye to your hosts and continue along the Rupununi River and through the rainforest to Pakaraima Mountain Inn, where you stop for lunch with Charlie De Freitas and listen to his stories. The journey then continues on the Rupununi River to Karanambu Lodge. Here you will go on a variety of excursions on the river, in the rainforest and in the savannah to discover the flora and fauna. Overnight stay in a lodge.

      Day 15: Big Anteaters And Black Caimans

      In the early morning, you will head out into the vast savannah in search of the giant anteater (Myrmecophaga tridactyla), which usually feeds on the termite mounds here. After breakfast, you continue the journey and drive upstream to Yupukari, where you will spend the night at Caiman House. You will get an insight into how the researchers at the station catch the black caimans (Melanosuchus niger) to measure and weigh them before they are released back into the wild. Overnight stay in a lodge.

      In the early morning, you go on an electric boat or paddle boat to observe animals and birds. Lake Awariku is home to herons and ibises, as well as giant sea otters and caimans. You then travel via Lethem to Boa Vista. Olรก no brasil - welcome to Brazil. From here you fly to Manaus, the gateway to the mighty Amazon. Overnight stay in a hotel.
