A rental car upgrade to an SUV (e.g. Renault Duster) or four-wheel drive (e.g. Chevrolet D Max) is possible for an additional charge. We will be happy to book the flight to Ecuador for you with KLM or Iberia (price depends on season, departure airport and availability).

      Arrival in Quito. You will be met at the airport and taken to your hotel. The rest of the evening is at your leisure.

  • Day 2 Quito - Otavalo

      Quito - Otavalo

      First take a walk through the colonial old town. Visit the Plaza de la Independencia and the Plaza San Francisco. Itโ€™s also worth  taking a look at the famous Jesuit church La Companรญa . At midday you will be picked up from the hotel and taken to the car rental office. Here you will receive the selected car. We then head north through the Guayabamba Valley and past Lake San Pablo to Otavalo . In the afternoon, visit the waterfall and village of Peguche or Condor Park.

      Use the day for a trip to the Cuicocha guinea pig lagoon , where you can hike and boat. The small leather village of Cotacachi with its nice museum is also worth a visit.


      Other excursion options include the El Angel nature reserve or the Mojanda lagoons, where beautiful hikes can be undertaken.

      In the morning you have time to visit the famous Otavalo Saturday market around the Plaza de Ponchos. You then drive via Cayambe and El Quinche into the Andean highlands. Drive via Cayambe and El Quinche, into the highlands of the Eastern Cordillera. At the Papallacta Pass we turn right to the Cayambe Coca reserve and a spectacular viewing point at 4300m. You continue to Papallacta to the hot thermal baths . Apart from swimming and relaxing, itโ€™s worth taking a short hike along the river. A spa area is also available.

      After a final swim in the volcanic springs, you drive south on the Volcano Road to Cotopaxi National Park . Here you go to the parking lot and from there on foot (approx. 45 minutes) to the refuge of the magnificent volcano. If the weather is good, you can walk up to the snow line and enjoy the fantastic view. Then you drive to your hotel near the park.

In the afternoon we go to the resort town of Baรฑos at 1800m, which you can get to know on a first short city tour in the evening.

      Today you drive to the Chimborazo National Park , where you can climb from the first refuge, to the second refuge and further up to the Condor Lagoon at 5100m. The Chimborazo (6268m) is the highest mountain in the world measured from the center of the earth and the closest point to the sun. In the national park you will see numerous vicuรฑas. In the afternoon you drive past Lake Colta to the small Andean village of Guamote.

      This morning explore Guamoteโ€™s colorful weekly market. Then continue driving south. Today you continue south to Ingapirca, the largest and most important Inca fortress in the country. On the way you can take a detour to the sand dunes of the Palmira desert " of the well-known area. After visiting the Sun Temple and the archaeological museum in Ingapirca, you will drive to Cuenca , where you can take your first short tour of the city in the evening.
