You meet the guide and the rest of the group, and depart from Mexico City. You get to Tlachichuca, where you make a last stop for any last minute purchases for snacks or any thing else that is needed. Once ready you continue on the way to Piedra Grande, the camping zone. This part of the drive is full of amazing views, and you can start seeing at the distance the peak of the volcano.
The adventure begins, you move towards the area where you will spend the night. You can go on an acclimatization hike. The guides also explain all the important and necessary security information for this experience.
After an acclimatization walk, you have plenty of time to rest and prepare for the next day. Before sleeping, you prepare your backpack with everything necessary for the day of attack to the summit. You go to sleep early to recover much needed energy for tomorrow.
Altitude of the camp: Close to 14000 fasl.
You leave at dawn, with your headlamps and everything necessary to conquer the summit. It is a big challenge, a hike to a high mountain summit. You walk for around 7 hours. The trail to the summit is incredible, you are always surrounded by wonderful landscapes.
Hiking time: Approximately 7 hours climbing. Difficulty: Very challenging.
The view is incredible! The excitement of being up there has no equal. You find yourself standing on the highest mountain in Mexico, surrounded by snow and incredible glaciers. You are now more than 18000 fasl! What you feel in this moment is complete happiness, the best reward after this great challenge.
Walking time: Approximately 5 hours descending. Difficulty: Very challenging.
Back in the camping zone, you rest before going back to Tlachichuca, where you have a great lunch. After packing everything, you are ready to go back to Mexico City. You return to the vans and hit the road back. You arrive to the city between 10:00 pm and 12 am. This was such an incredible adventure!
